Este artigo aborda os processos de identidade transnacional adaptativa relacionados com o soccer entre as comunidades imigrantes lusófonas na Nova Inglaterra. Dedica-se especial atenção à forma como a equipa de soccer New England Revolution (na 1.ª Divisão americana) vende o clube aos imigrantes lusófonos e, em resultado, participa no campo social transnacional, importante para a integração social e económica dos imigrantes nos contextos locais. Este artigo dá a conhecer os processos de migração transnacional adaptativa examinando uma instituição que não está ligada através do discurso ao grupo de imigrantes mas que, em qualquer caso, serve os seus fins adaptativos.

Identité transnationale adaptative et la vente du soccer: le New England Revolution et les populations immigrées lusophones
L’article aborde les processus de l’identité transnationale adaptative liés au soccer dans les communautés immigrées lusophones de la Nouvelle Angleterre. Une attention particulière est consacrée à la façon dont l’équipe de soccer New England Revolution (dans la première division américaine) a vendu le club aux immigrés lusophones et participe, de la sorte, au domaine social transnational, un élément important pour l’intégration sociale et économique des immigrés dans les contextes locaux. L’article révèle également les processus de la migration transnationale adaptative, en examinant une institution non liée par le discours au groupe des immigrés mais qui, en tout cas, sert leurs fins adaptatives.
Adaptive transnational identity and the selling of soccer: the New England Revolution and Lusophone migrant populations
]]> The paper provides an overview of adaptive transnational identity processes related to soccer among Lusophone migrant communities in New England. Particular attention is paid to how the New England Revolution soccer team (in the US first division) markets the club to the Lusophone migrants and as a result participates in the transnational social field, important for migrant economic and social integration in local contexts. The paper provides insight into adaptive transnational migration processes by examining an institution not discoursively linked to the migrant group, but that nonetheless serves its adaptive ends.
