No que respeita à massa volúmica, para além destes métodos, foi também utilizado o método clássico da impulsão, o que possibilitou um estudo comparativo das vantagens e desvantagens da aplicação de cada um deles ao caso da madeira. A utilização da intrusão de mercúrio permitiu ainda obter informação, quer sobre os valores da porosidade ao longo do tronco da árvore, quer sobre a respectiva distribuição de tamanhos de poros, possibilitando um conhecimento mais pormenorizado da estrutura porosa da madeira da E. globulus.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The aim of the present work is the determination of the density and porosity of E. globulus wood by using gas pycnometry and mercury porosimetry techniques. In addition to these techniques, the water displacement method was also used to measure density, allowing a comparative study of the advantages and disadvantages of the application of these methods to the wood. Mercury porosimetry provided information not only on porosity but also on pore size distribution which permitted a more detailed study of the porous structure of E. globulus wood to be made.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="fr"><p><![CDATA[L'objectif principal de ce travail est la détermination de la masse volumique et de la porosité d'un arbre de E. globulus, par application des techniques de la picnometrie de gaz et de la porosimétrie de mercure. En ce qui concerne la détermination de la masse volumique, en plus de ces méthodes, la méthode de poussée d'Archimède a aussi été utilisée, ce qu'a rendu possible une étude comparatif des avantages et désavantages de leur application au cas du bois. L'utilisation de la porosimétrie de mercure a permis d'obtenir l'information sur la porosité dans l'arbre, sur la distribution des pores et a également permis une connaissance plus détaillée sur la structure poreuse du bois de E. globulus.]]></p></abstract>
