Apresenta o Síndroma de Adaptação Geral (SAG), abordando os diversos aspectos biológicos, psicológicos e sociais, bem como os sintomas e sinais do Stress. Refere os aspectos psicossociais do Stress, as causas deste na pessoa, família e sociedade. Descrevem-se as formas de medida e avaliação do Stress, a importância do Stress como agente não patológico e as suas consequências na saúde, focando os mecanismos de adaptação ao Stress.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This article presents a historical view of Stress and its definition. The General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) is described, focusing on the biological, psychological and social aspects of Stress, with their signs and symptoms. The psychosocial aspects of Stress are described, presenting the causes at the personal, family and society. The ways of assessing Stress are presented, and its importance as a non pathological factor and its consequences in health, and discussing the ways of coping with Stress.]]></p></abstract>
