O presente artigo visa uma abordagem da informação prestada ao doente oncológico quando inserido em contextos sociais e institucionais, sublinhando o seu papel potenciador da emergência de estratégias de ajustamento psicossocial do doente e, por outro lado, relevando o protagonismo das mulheres mastectomizadas no seu estatuto de doentes veteranas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The informational act and the modalities of information given to the breast cancer patient, while going through treatment, permit to identify features of psychosocial profiles inherent to the patient protagonism, describing some categories namely the «informed patient» and the «uninformed patient». This article is an approach to the information given to oncologic patients in the institucional context, enhancing the role of information given in the strategies of psychosocial adjustment of the patient and, on the other hand, we stress the protagonism of the mastectomized women in their role of veteran patients.]]></p></abstract>
