RESUMO

A avaliação da qualidade de vida das pessoas que sofreram lesão cerebral tem sido um aspecto pouco explorado, como resultado, nomeadamente, da falta de instrumentos adequados, das dificuldades dos próprios sujeitos fazerem a sua auto-avaliação e ainda da inexistência de populações de controlo. O European Brain Injury Questionnaire (EBIQ - Teasdale et al., 1997) foi criado para que, de uma forma simples, o doente possa fazer uma avaliação da sua experiência subjectiva e, simultaneamente, um familiar próximo faça também uma avaliação paralela do doente. O presente trabalho constitui a adaptação do EBIQ para uma população de controlo portuguesa (307 pares - sujeito/elemento da família), de modo a permitir a utilização deste instrumento em diversas situações decorrentes de lesão cerebral em sujeitos adultos.

Life quality evaluation in people who have suffered brain damage has been insufficiently explored, namely as the result of the lack of adequate instruments, the difficulties of the subjects themselves in making self-evaluation, and the non-existence of control populations. The European Brain Injury Questionnaire (EBIQ Teasdale et al., 1997) was designed to provide a simple evaluation of the subjective experience of the brain-injured person and at the same time allowing a close relative to complete a parallel version concerning the patient. The present study intends to adapt the EBIQ to the Portuguese control population (307 pairs subject/close relative) to allow the use of this instrument in different conditions of brain injury in adult subjects.
