<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0870-82312004000200003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0870-82312004000200003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0870-82312004000200003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Este estudo exploratório, ao considerar a Equitação Terapêutica como uma área de intervenção tridimensional, pretendeu enfatizar alguns dos aspectos relacionais implícitos e averiguar se, após a aplicação da Equitação Psico-Educacional - EPE (uma sessão semanal durante dezasseis semanas), em cinco crianças (entre os cinco e os dez anos) diagnosticadas com autismo, se registariam: melhorias ao nível do desenvolvimento e do comportamento; dados que pudessem confirmar a eficácia do tratamento; progressos na adequação de cada participante às diferentes tarefas propostas no decurso das sessões. A metodologia utilizada centrou-se na redacção integral de todas as sessões; na utilização da Grelha de Observação (individual/sessão) para Equitação Psico-Educacional (EPE), com crianças autistas; na aplicação, aos participantes, do Psychoeducational Profile Revised (Schopler et al., 1994) antes (teste) e depois (reteste) da aplicação do tratamento; na aplicação quinzenal, aos pais, do Autism Treatment of Evaluation Checklist (Rimland & Edelson, 2000); e, por último, na utilização de técnicas de audiovisual, com uma periodicidade mensal. Os resultados mostraram-se concordantes com a totalidade das hipóteses colocadas. Estas evidências convidam a uma reflexão sobre a importância do papel catalizador do cavalo, no seio de uma "nova relação" técnico-criança, que deve ser investida como central e transformadora.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This exploratory study, considering the Therapeutic Riding as a three-dimensional interventional area, intended to emphasize some of the relational aspects involved and aimed to determine if, after the application of Psycho-Educational Riding (PER) (one session per week for sixteen weeks), to five autistic children (between five and ten years of age), we would monitor: improvements in different aspects of development and behaviour; data that might confirm the effectiveness of PER; the development of the necessary skills leading to an increasingly improved performance, of the proposed tasks, during the sessions. The methodology used focussed on the written composition of all sessions; on the employment of the Observational Grid (individual/session) for Psycho-Educational Riding (PER) with autistic children; in the application, to the participants, of the Psychoeducational Profile Revised (Schopler et al., 1994), prior to and after the treatment; the parents were asked to fill out the Autism Treatment of Evaluation Checklist (Rimland & Edelson, 2000), every two weeks; and, at last, audiovisual techniques were also applied on a monthly basis. The results fulfilled all the hypotheses raised at the start of this study. This evidence raises the question on the importance of the horse's catalytic role in the core of a technician-child "new relationship", which must be viewed as crucial and transforming.]]></p></abstract>
