RESUMO
Esta investigação teve como objectivo principal caracterizar a prevalência de sintomas depressivos em adolescentes que frequentam escolas secundárias do concelho de Palmela. Aplicou-se a versão portuguesa do Inventário de Depressão para Crianças (CDI) a uma amostra de 570 jovens entre os 12 e os 17 anos. Fizeram-se estudos das características psicométricas do inventário, cálculo da percentagem de sujeitos considerados em sofrimento psicológico (amostra total e subamostras) e estudos sobre o efeito preditivo das variáveis critério relativamente aos resultados no CDI. Neste artigo, discutem-se os resultados do estudo, suas implicações práticas e limitações.

ABSTRACT
]]> The main objective of this research was to characterise the prevalence of depressive symptoms among adolescents attending secondary schools in the district of Palmela. The Portuguese version of the Children Depression Inventory (CDI) was applied to a sample of 570 teenagers, ranging from 12 to 17 years of age. The psychometric characteristics of the Inventory were studied, the percentage of individuals in psychological distress was determined (total sample and sub sample) and studies on the predictive effect of criteria variables relating the results in the CDI were also made. The results of the study, its practical implications and limitations are here discussed.Key words: Epidemiology, adolescents, prevalence, depressive symptoms.
