A forma como se vive todo o caminho que o cancro exige (diagnóstico, tratamentos, vigilância regular) influencia certamente a forma de lidar com as adicionais consequências. A sexualidade e a fertilidade são áreas muito importantes na vida dos indivíduos, para a sua qualidade de vida, que podem aqui resultar afectadas. Nas crianças e nos adolescentes tem um impacto ao nível da trajectória do desenvolvimento psicosexual. Nos adultos tem um impacto no funcionamento psicosexual, que pode ser transitório ou permanente. As consequências ao nível da fertilidade colocam-se de igual forma tanto aos que passaram pelo cancro na infância, na adolescência, e em adultos (com e/ou sem filhos). Quando o tempo passa, a gravidez não surge, e as tentativas resultam sempre falhadas, a ansiedade aumenta face à frustração de não conseguir ter um filho.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[This article deals with the consequences of cancer disease in the fields of sexuality (in the development of child and/or adolescent, and in regular life of adults) and (in)fertility. The way patients live all through the cancer process (diagnosis, treatments, regular vigilance) influences the way they cope with its additional consequences. Sexuality and fertility are very important areas for the individual’s quality of life that can be damaged in presence of cancer. In children and adolescent it has an impact on their psychosexual development. In adults it impacts their psychosexual functioning, either in a transitory or permanent way. Cancer consequences in terms of fertility are similar for those that experienced cancer in the childhood, adolescence, and adult life (with children or not). As time goes by and pregnancy does not happen, anxiety increases given the frustration of being unable to have a child.]]></p></abstract>

A forma como se vive todo o caminho que o cancro exige (diagn&oacute;stico,    tratamentos, vigil&acirc;ncia regular) influencia certamente a forma de lidar    com as adicionais consequ&ecirc;ncias. A sexualidade e a fertilidade s&atilde;o    &aacute;reas muito importantes na vida dos indiv&iacute;duos, para a sua qualidade    de vida, que podem aqui resultar afectadas.
