Aims: (a) to characterize the perception of the social, academic, and psychological impact of the lockdown; (b) to examine the relationship between social, academic, and psychological impact and sociodemographic, contextual, and academic characteristics; (c) to study predictors of the psychological impact of the lockdown (anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, and stress). The sample consisted of 247 students who responded to a sociodemographic, contextual, and academic questionnaire, and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales-21. Data were analyzed using Chi-square tests, independent-sample t-tests, and linear multiple regressions. The negative psychological impact was predicted by gender, physical activity, problems connecting to the internet, and study cycle. This study highlighted the need to promote the social-emotional development of higher education students &#8220;caught by&#8221; the COVID-19 pandemic.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo O presente estudo examinou o funcionamento social, académico e psicológico (ansiedade, depressão e stress), durante o primeiro confinamento devido à COVID-19 (março a julho de 2020), num grupo de estudantes universitários portugueses. Objetivos: (a) caracterizar a perceção de impacto social, académico e psicológico do confinamento; (b) examinar a relação entre o impacto social, académico e psicológico e características sociodemográficas, contextuais e académicas dos participantes; (c) identificar preditores do impacto psicológico do confinamento (sintomas de ansiedade, depressão e stress). A amostra incluiu 247 estudantes que responderam a um questionário sociodemográfico, contextual e académico, bem como às Escalas de Ansiedade, Depressão e Stress (EADS-21). Os dados foram analisados através do recurso a testes de qui-quadrado, testes-t para amostras independentes e regressões lineares múltiplas. O impacto psicológico negativo foi predito pelo género, níveis de atividade física, problemas de ligação à internet e ciclo de estudos. Este estudo enfatizou a necessidade de promoção do desenvolvimento socioemocional de estudantes universitários &#8220;apanhados &#8220;pela pandemia por COVID-19.]]></p></abstract>
