A produção de mudas em escala comercial é afetada por problemas nas sementes devido à sarcotesta e a dormência pós-colheita. Desta forma, em casa-de-vegetação, avaliou-se os efeitos da combinação entre o estádio de maturação de frutos e temperatura de embebição de sementes em água na emergência e no crescimento de plântulas de mamoeiro. Adotou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 4, sendo dois estádios de maturação (3 e 5) e quatro temperaturas de embebição das sementes em água (25 °C, 50 °C, 75 °C e 95 °C). Sementes extraídas de frutos no estádio de maturação 3 propiciaram maior percentagem e velocidade de emergência e, massa de matéria fresca de plântulas que no estádio 5. Temperaturas mais altas foram mais eficientes para promover alterações na estrutura e composição da sarcotesta sem prejudicar o embrião, e, consequentemente, a emergência de plântulas. Sementes oriundas de frutos no estádio de maturação 3 embebidas em água a temperatura de 95°C são apropriadas para a produção de mudas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Papaya is one of the most consumed tropical fruits in the world. The seedling production on a commercial scale is affected by problems in seed dormancy due to sarcotesta and postharvest. Thus, in a greenhouse, we evaluated the effects of combining the maturity stage of fruits and temperature of soaking in water, the emergence and seedling growth of papaya. We adopted a completely randomized design in a factorial 2 x 4, two ripening stages (3 and 5) and four temperatures soaking the seeds in water (25 °C, 50 °C, 75 °C and 95 °C). Seeds from fruits at ripening stage 3 provided higher percentages and speed, mass and seedling fresh matter that at the stage 5. Higher temperatures were more efficient for promoting changes in the structure and composition of the sarcotesta without harming the embryo and, consequently, the emergence of seedlings. Seeds from fruits at ripening stage 3 soaked in water the temperature of 95 °C are suitable for the production of seedlings.]]></p></abstract>

Trata-se de um m&eacute;todo r&aacute;pido, econ&ocirc;mico e pr&aacute;tico (Tokuhisa <i>et al</i>., 2007). No entanto, a germina&ccedil;&atilde;o &eacute; considerada lenta e irregular devido a presen&ccedil;a de sarcotesta nas sementes e dorm&ecirc;ncia associada a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o e &eacute;poca de colheita dos frutos (Yahiro, 1979; Reyes <i>et al</i>., 1980; Aroucha <i>et al</i>., 2005; Tokuhisa <i>et al</i>., 2007; Tokuhisa <i>et al</i>., 2008; Rodrigu&eacute;z <i>et al</i>., 2013).</p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>O estabelecimento do momento adequado da colheita do fruto, em fun&ccedil;&atilde;o do grau de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o, visando a extra&ccedil;&atilde;o de sementes, &eacute; uma etapa crucial para a produ&ccedil;&atilde;o de mudas de v&aacute;rias esp&eacute;cies frut&iacute;feras, como a pitangueira (Antunes <i>et al</i>., 2012), a cerejeira-do-mato e uvaia (Oro <i>et al</i>., 2012), o maracujazeiro (Ara&uacute;jo <i>et al</i>., 2007; Battistus <i>et al</i>., 2014), a jabuticabeira (Alexandre <i>et al</i>., 2006), o physalis (Carvalho <i>et al</i>., 2014; Sbrussi <i>et al</i>., 2014) e mamoeiro (Lopes <i>et al</i>., 2009; Melo e Seleguini, 2013; Zanotti <i>et al</i>., 2014). Altera&ccedil;&otilde;es morfol&oacute;gicas relacionadas &agrave; colora&ccedil;&atilde;o e textura no epicarpo podem ser sugestivas para otimizar a colheita de frutos para a retirada de sementes com alta qualidade (Carvalho e Nakagawa, 2012).</p>     <p>A embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o em &aacute;gua quente &eacute; um tratamento pr&eacute;-germinativo recomendado para a supera&ccedil;&atilde;o de dorm&ecirc;ncia em sementes de tegumento duro e imperme&aacute;vel (Muhamadd e Amusa, 2003; Souza <i>et al.,</i> 2007; Zarchini <i>et al</i>., 2011; Dutra <i>et al</i>., 2013). Al&eacute;m disso, pode ser utilizada com o objetivo de inativar ou lixiviar subst&acirc;ncias inibidoras e retardantes da emerg&ecirc;ncia e/ou desenvolvimento de pl&acirc;ntulas presentes no tegumento e controlar pat&oacute;genos associados &agrave;s sementes (Marroni <i>et al</i>., 2009; Agusti-Brisach <i>et al</i>., 2012; Ding <i>et al</i>., 2013; Faruq <i>et al</i>., 2015). No entanto, tal m&eacute;todo deve ser investigado devido a poss&iacute;veis danos ao embri&atilde;o.</p>     <p>Diante do exposto, o prop&oacute;sito deste trabalho foi determinar os efeitos do est&aacute;dio de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o de frutos e de tratamentos pr&eacute;-germinativos com &aacute;gua quente na emerg&ecirc;ncia e no crescimento de pl&acirc;ntulas de mamoeiro.</p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><b>Material e m&eacute;todos</b></p>     <p>As sementes utilizadas foram extra&iacute;das de frutos hermafroditas de mam&atilde;o, do grupo Formosa, h&iacute;brido Tainung 01, nos est&aacute;dios de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o 3 (colora&ccedil;&atilde;o amarelada correspondendo a 50 % do epicarpo, presen&ccedil;a de &aacute;reas em verde claro) e 5 (mais de 75% da superf&iacute;cie externa com colora&ccedil;&atilde;o amarelada), conforme crit&eacute;rios estabelecidos por Tatagiba e Oliveira (2000) e adaptados de Basulto <i>et al</i>. (2009) . As sementes foram removidas com aux&iacute;lio de colher de inox, sem excis&atilde;o de res&iacute;duos da polpa em &aacute;gua corrente para evitar a retirada da sarcotesta.</p>     <p>Para avaliar o efeito da combina&ccedil;&atilde;o entre o est&aacute;dio de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o de frutos e a temperatura da &aacute;gua na embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o de sementes de mam&atilde;o, empregou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repeti&ccedil;&otilde;es (24 sementes / repeti&ccedil;&atilde;o), em esquema fatorial 2 x 4, sendo duas classes de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o (classes 3 e 5) e quatro temperaturas de embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o (25 &deg;C, 50 &deg;C, 75 &deg;C e 95 &deg;C). As sementes foram imersas em 50 mL de &aacute;gua inicialmente a essas temperaturas, por cinco minutos, e colocadas para secar sobre papel, &agrave; temperatura ambiente, por sete dias.</p>     <p>Posteriormente, realizou-se a semeadura em bandejas de isopor de 128 c&eacute;lulas (40 cm<sup>3</sup> porc&eacute;lula), preenchidas com o substrato comercial Tropstrato<sup>&reg;</sup>, empregando-se uma semente por c&eacute;lula. A emerg&ecirc;ncia de pl&acirc;ntulas foi avaliada a cada 2 dias, durante 30 dias ap&oacute;s a semeadura, para c&aacute;lculo do &iacute;ndice de velocidade de emerg&ecirc;ncia (Maguire, 1962).&nbsp;</p>     <p>Aos 45 dias ap&oacute;s a semeadura procedeu-se an&aacute;lise de crescimento das mudas para determina&ccedil;&atilde;o de: massa de mat&eacute;ria fresca total (g planta<sup>-1</sup>); massa de mat&eacute;ria seca total (mg planta<sup>-1</sup>); altura de parte a&eacute;rea (cm planta<sup>-1</sup>) e comprimento radicular (cm planta<sup>-1</sup>). Amostraram-se, de cada repeti&ccedil;&atilde;o, quatro mudas que foram pesadas em balan&ccedil;a anal&iacute;tica (precis&atilde;o de 0,001 g) para obten&ccedil;&atilde;o de massa de mat&eacute;ria fresca total. Posteriormente, as mudas foram acondicionadas em sacos de papel e submetidas ao m&eacute;todo estufa (60 &deg;C, 72 horas) para determina&ccedil;&atilde;o da massa de mat&eacute;ria seca total (Benincasa, 2003). A altura de parte a&eacute;rea e o comprimento radicular foram obtidos por meio de r&eacute;gua graduada.</p>     <p>Os dados obtidos, primeiramente, foram submetidos aos testes de Liliefors (Normalidade) e Barlett (Homogeneidade de vari&acirc;ncia) para verificar as pressuposi&ccedil;&otilde;es da an&aacute;lise de vari&acirc;ncia. Todos estes requisitos foram atendidos e, portanto, os dados n&atilde;o foram transformados.</p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>A signific&acirc;ncia dos efeitos dos tratamentos foi determinada pelo Teste F, sendo que para o fator &ldquo;temperatura da &aacute;gua de embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o&rdquo; foram ajustadas regress&otilde;es polinomiais. Para intera&ccedil;&atilde;o entre os fatores "matura&ccedil;&atilde;o" e "temperatura da &aacute;gua de embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o" empregou-se o Teste de Tukey e regress&otilde;es polinomiais.</p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><b>Resultados e discuss&atilde;o</b></p>     <p>A emerg&ecirc;ncia de pl&acirc;ntulas iniciou-se aos 19 dias ap&oacute;s a semeadura. As intera&ccedil;&otilde;es entre os fatores (est&aacute;dio de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o x temperatura da &aacute;gua de embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o) ocorreram para a percentagem de emerg&ecirc;ncia de pl&acirc;ntulas, &iacute;ndice de velocidade de emerg&ecirc;ncia e massa de mat&eacute;ria fresca total (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q1.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 1</a>). As demais vari&aacute;veis foram analisadas considerando os efeitos isolados de cada fator.</p>     
<p>O est&aacute;dio de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o de frutos afetou a percentagem e velocidade de emerg&ecirc;ncia e, a acumula&ccedil;&atilde;o de massa de mat&eacute;ria fresca nos tecidos de pl&acirc;ntulas de mamoeiro, fato tamb&eacute;m observado por Sangakkara (1995). Sementes oriundas de frutos no est&aacute;dio 3, quando comparadas as do est&aacute;dio 5, propiciaram maior percentagem e velocidade de emerg&ecirc;ncia e, massa de mat&eacute;ria fresca de pl&acirc;ntulas (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q1.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 1</a>).</p>     
<p>Zhou e Paull (2001) verificaram que o m&aacute;ximo desenvolvimento de sementes de mam&atilde;o, procedentes de frutos da cultivar Sunset (grupo Solo), ocorre antes da completa matura&ccedil;&atilde;o dos frutos. No est&aacute;dio 3, as sementes provavelmente alcan&ccedil;am o ponto de maturidade fisiol&oacute;gica, que representa o m&aacute;ximo potencial fisiol&oacute;gico refletido na germina&ccedil;&atilde;o e no vigor (Carvalho e Nakagawa, 2012; Marcos Filho, 2005; Lopes <i>et al</i>., 2009).</p>     <p>O efeito da temperatura da &aacute;gua na embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o de sementes sobre a emerg&ecirc;ncia e massa de mat&eacute;ria fresca &eacute; dependente do est&aacute;dio de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o dos frutos (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q1.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 1</a>; <a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q2.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 2</a>). Verificou-se para sementes extra&iacute;das de frutos no est&aacute;dio 3 que temperaturas mais altas (95 &ordm;C) incrementaram a percentagem e velocidade de emerg&ecirc;ncia assim como o ac&uacute;mulo de &aacute;gua nos tecidos, atingindo o ponto de m&aacute;ximo quando submetidas a 95 &deg;C (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07f1.jpg" target="_blank">Figura 1A, 1B, 1C</a>; <a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q2.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 2</a>). Considerando-se as sementes de frutos no est&aacute;dio 5, a temperatura n&atilde;o propiciou nenhum efeito (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07f1.jpg" target="_blank">Figura 1A, 1B, 1C</a>).</p>     
<p>A composi&ccedil;&atilde;o qu&iacute;mica da sarcotesta pode explicar tal contraste. A subst&acirc;ncia predominante nessa estrutura &eacute; o &aacute;cido p-hidroxibenz&oacute;ico (Chow e Lin, 1991). Este &aacute;cido &eacute; um composto fen&oacute;lico derivado do &aacute;cido salic&iacute;lico. Estes fen&oacute;is s&atilde;o considerados pouco est&aacute;veis e facilmente oxidados por a&ccedil;&atilde;o de luz, calor e metais (Carvalho <i>et al</i>., 2004). O &aacute;cido salic&iacute;lico al&eacute;m de ser mensageiro central na resposta a infec&ccedil;&otilde;es causadas por pat&oacute;genos pode ser um inibidor de crescimento, prejudicando a germina&ccedil;&atilde;o e a emerg&ecirc;ncia de pl&acirc;ntulas (Sharafizad <i>et al</i>., 2013). Assim, pode-se inferir que, em fun&ccedil;&atilde;o da poss&iacute;vel maturidade fisiol&oacute;gica, as sementes de frutos no est&aacute;dio 3 possuem maior quantidade de compostos fen&oacute;licos na sarcotesta para impedir a viviparidade. Diante de tais proposi&ccedil;&otilde;es, sugere-se que estudos sejam ampliados visando a caracteriza&ccedil;&atilde;o da composi&ccedil;&atilde;o da sarcotesta em fun&ccedil;&atilde;o dos graus de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o de frutos e sementes de mam&atilde;o.</p>     <p>Temperaturas mais altas foram mais eficientes pois promoveram altera&ccedil;&otilde;es na estrutura e composi&ccedil;&atilde;o da sarcotesta sem prejudicar o embri&atilde;o, e, consequentemente, a emerg&ecirc;ncia de pl&acirc;ntulas (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q1.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 1</a>). A &aacute;gua quente pode ter favorecido a forma&ccedil;&atilde;o de microfraturas ao longo do tegumento, impulsionando a embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o, como sugerido por Gray (1962). A imers&atilde;o de sementes de <i>Peltophorum dubium</i> (Sprengel) Taubert e <i>Capsicum baccatum</i> L. var. pendulum em &aacute;gua quente propiciou maior germina&ccedil;&atilde;o (Oliveira <i>et al</i>., 2003; Carneiro <i>et al</i>., 2010; Seneme <i>et al</i>., 2012). No entanto, temperaturas elevadas podem ocasionar a indu&ccedil;&atilde;o de dorm&ecirc;ncia secund&aacute;ria e morte do embri&atilde;o, prejudicando a germina&ccedil;&atilde;o e a emerg&ecirc;ncia de pl&acirc;ntulas (Albuquerque <i>et al</i>., 2007; Shimizu <i>et al</i>., 2011; Wang <i>et al</i>., 2011; Xavier <i>et al</i>., 2012).</p>     
<p>O fator est&aacute;dio de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o n&atilde;o afetou a acumula&ccedil;&atilde;o de massa de mat&eacute;ria seca total de pl&acirc;ntulas de mam&atilde;o, assim como a altura de parte a&eacute;rea e o comprimento radicular (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q1.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 1</a>). Assim, sementes oriundas de frutos do est&aacute;dio 3, mesmo em vantagem em rela&ccedil;&atilde;o ao maior conte&uacute;do de mat&eacute;ria seca em fun&ccedil;&atilde;o da poss&iacute;vel maturidade fisiol&oacute;gica, priorizaram o gasto metab&oacute;lico no processo de emerg&ecirc;ncia, e, n&atilde;o, no desenvolvimento e crescimento posterior da pl&acirc;ntula, equiparando-se ao comportamento de sementes de frutos do est&aacute;dio 5.</p>

<body><![CDATA[<p>Temperaturas crescentes ocasionaram respostas quadr&aacute;ticas para as vari&aacute;veis altura de parte a&eacute;rea e comprimento radicular, sem preju&iacute;zos &agrave; massa de mat&eacute;ria seca total (<a href="/img/revistas/rca/v38n3/38n3a07q1.jpg" target="_blank">Quadro 1</a>). Choques t&eacute;rmicos causam a ativa&ccedil;&atilde;o de enzimas que atuam em rotas metab&oacute;licas envolvidas no crescimento do hipoc&oacute;tilo (&Aacute;quila e Neto, 1988). Alves <i>et al</i>. (2004) observaram que a embebi&ccedil;&atilde;o de sementes de <i>Bauhinia divaricata</i> L. em &aacute;gua a 70&deg;C proporcionou as maiores acumula&ccedil;&otilde;es de massa de mat&eacute;ria seca. No entanto, Bruno <i>et al</i>. (2001) verificaram que a imers&atilde;o de sementes de <i>Mimosa caesalpiniaefolia </i>Bentham em &aacute;gua fervente ocasionou o menor conte&uacute;do de mat&eacute;ria seca nas pl&acirc;ntulas. Desta forma, observa-se que o efeito do uso da &aacute;gua quente para supera&ccedil;&atilde;o de dorm&ecirc;ncia e/ou promo&ccedil;&atilde;o na emerg&ecirc;ncia e crescimento de pl&acirc;ntulas &eacute; dependente do gen&oacute;tipo, popula&ccedil;&atilde;o, morfologia da semente, matura&ccedil;&atilde;o fisiol&oacute;gica da semente, tempo e temperatura de imers&atilde;o (Souza <i>et al</i>., 1994; Azeredo <i>et al</i>., 2010).</p>     
<p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><b>Conclus&atilde;o</b></p>     <p>O est&aacute;dio de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o dos frutos de mam&atilde;o &eacute; um fator essencial para a retirada de sementes com alta qualidade visando a produ&ccedil;&atilde;o de mudas.
