O experimento foi realizado em fevereiro de 2018, numa área agrícola com restolho de milho, inserida na Quinta do Poulão, Bragança. A amostragem foi realizada imediatamente antes e depois das operações de preparo do solo. As alfaias utilizadas foram o escarificador, o arado de aivecas e a combinação de ambos, com modelos adequados para tração motorizada e para tração animal. As variáveis de estudo foram permeabilidade inicial (Ksi) e final (Ksf), densidade aparente (Dap), porosidade à 1h de drenagem (P1h), percentagem de humidade à 1h de drenagem (%H1h) e às 24h de drenagem (%H24h). Os resultados demonstraram que não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre os dois tipos de tração; porém, foram identificadas diferenças significativas entre o momento de amostragem aquando da aplicação dos tratamentos, para as variáveis Ksi, Ksf, Dap, %H1h e %H24h. Dessa forma, a entrada das alfaias, tracionadas por maquinaria ou animal, exerceram mudanças no solo, principalmente em relação à retenção e ao movimento da água, afetando positivamente estes parâmetros. Isso aponta para a necessidade de estudos complementares, a longo prazo, para avaliar mais profundamente o efeito da tração animal nas propriedades do solo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The purpose of the study was to observe the effect tillage operations performed with animal traction on soil physical properties. The study was conducted in February 2018, in an agricultural area with corn stubble, at Quinta do Poulão, Bragança. Soil sampling was done immediately before and after tillage operations. The implements used were the scarifier, the moldboard plow and the combination of both, with models adequate for motorized traction and for animal traction. The study variables were initial (Ksi) and final (Ksf) permeability, bulk density (Dap), porosity at 1h of drainage (P1h), moisture percentage at 1h of (%H1h) and moisture percentage at 24h of drainage (%H24h). The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the two types of traction applied; however, significant differences were identified between the sampling moment (before and after application of the treatments) for the variables Ksi, Ksf, Dap, %H1h and %H24h. Thus, machinery or animal-powered implements exerted changes in soil properties, especially in those related to water retention and movement, positively affecting these parameters. Results demonstrate the need for further long-term studies to evaluate more deeply the effect of animal traction on soil properties.]]></p></abstract>
