Germination tests were carried out in Petri dishes with two treatments that were distinguished by the total absence of light and a photoperiod of 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness, in a total of six repetitions of ten seeds. The results showed the existence of differences in promotion of Solanum betaceum Cav. seeds germination. The germination conditions were decisive, being evident that there is sensitivity to light from the seeds of this plant species.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo Este estudo surge no contexto da aplicação de testes de germinação a amostras de sementes de tamarilhos (Solanum betaceum Cav.) vermelhos e laranjas, pós-colheita dos frutos maduros, para servirem como termo de comparação aos testes de viabilidade de sementes conservadas ex situ. Foram realizados testes de germinação em caixas de Petri com dois tratamentos que se distinguiam pela ausência total de luz e um fotoperíodo de 16 horas de luz e 8 horas de escuro, num total de seis repetições de dez sementes. Os resultados mostraram a existência de diferenças na promoção da germinação das sementes de Solanum betaceum Cav. As condições de germinação foram determinantes, sendo evidente que há sensibilidade à luz por parte das sementes desta espécie.]]></p></abstract>
