O bagaço e engaço de uva foram misturados com (i) estrume de bovino; (ii) estilha da poda da vinha: ou (iii) palha de milho destroçada na proporção em volume de 1:1. Alcançaram-se temperaturas termófilas (&gt; 50 °C) 2 dias após o início da compostagem permanecendo assim durante aproximadamente 3 semanas. O potencial de mineralização da MO diminuiu com estrume de bovino (495 g kg-1), devido ao excesso de humidade (&gt; 72%) a partir da 3ª semana, que limitou a atividade microbiana, sendo superior nas pilhas com palha (577 g kg-1) ou estilha (549 g kg-1) porque a estrutura destes materiais promoveu o arejamento das pilhas. No entanto, a pilha com estrume apresentou um teor de azoto superior e uma razão C/N inferior (N = 25 g kg-1; C/N &lt; 20) em comparação com as outras misturas. Concluiu-se que a estilha e a palha devem ser recomendadas quando as condições climáticas contribuem para o risco de humidade excessiva dentro das pilhas e o estrume para diminuir a razão C/N e aumentar o teor de N e, portanto, aumentar o valor agronómico do compostado.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The composting process of grape marc with different materials was assessed under heavy rainfall. Grape marc and grape stalks were mixed with (i) cattle manure; (ii) vine pruning chips; or (iii) shredded maize straw in the volume proportion of 1:1. The composting piles reached thermophilic temperatures (&gt; 50 °C) 2 days after the beginning of the composting, having remained approximately for three weeks at these temperatures. The potentially mineralizable OM decreased with cow manure (495 g kg-1) due to excess moisture content (&gt; 72%) after 3rd week which reduced microbial activity, being higher in piles with straw (577 g kg-1) or chips (549 g kg-1) because the structure of these materials promoted the aeration of the piles. However, the pile with manure had higher N content and lower C/N ratio (N = 24 g kg-1 and C/N ratio &lt; 20) compared to the other mixtures. It is concluded that pruning chips and straw are recommended when climatic conditions promote excessive moisture content inside the piles, and cow manure to decrease C/N ratio and increase N content and, therefore, to increase the agronomic value of the compost.]]></p></abstract>
