O experimento foi realizado no Laboratório Regional Sul de Sementes de Lionde, na Província de Gaza, Moçambique, entre fevereiro e março de 2023. Utilizou-se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 3x4, com três repetições. As sementes foram colocadas em uma câmara de germinação a 25°C por 8 dias, e foram avaliados vários parâmetros, incluindo a germinação total, a primeira contagem de germinação, o comprimento da parte aérea e do sistema radicular, a massa seca, a percentagem de plântulas normais, a percentagem de sementes mortas e o índice de tolerância à salinidade. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância a 5% de significância, seguidos pelo teste de Tukey. Os resultados mostraram que o estresse salino afetou o desempenho das variedades testadas, com a &#8216;BRS-257&#8217; apresentando maior tolerância, sendo uma possível alternativa para regiões com solos salinos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This study examined the effects of saline stress on the germination and early growth of three soybean varieties (&#8216;GMZ-VAVA&#8217;, &#8216;Ocephara-4&#8217;, and &#8216;BRS-257&#8217;) under varying levels of salinity (0, 5, and 10 dS/m). The research took place at the Lionde Southern Regional Seed Laboratory in Gaza Province, Mozambique, from February to March 2023. A completely randomized design was employed in a 3x4 factorial scheme with three replications. Seeds were incubated in a germination chamber at 25°C for 8 days, during which several key parameters were assessed, including total germination, initial germination count, shoot and root length, dry weight, the percentage of normal seedlings, dead seed percentage, and salinity tolerance index. Statistical analysis was conducted using variance analysis at a 5% significance level, followed by Tukey&#8217;s test for mean comparison. The findings revealed that saline stress had a significant impact on the varieties, with &#8216;BRS-257&#8217; demonstrating the highest tolerance, suggesting it as a viable option for cultivation in saline-prone regions.]]></p></abstract>
