Participaram do estudo cinco grupos de adolescentes entre 14 e 17 anos, em visita, fora do contexto escolar, à exposição de longa duração &#8220;Explora&#8221;, do Pavilhão do Conhecimento &#8211; Centro Ciência Viva, em Lisboa (Portugal). A investigação se caracteriza por um estudo de caso aliado a uma abordagem quanti-qualitativa. Os registros audiovisuais das visitas foram analisados com um protocolo que combina aspectos teóricos e empíricos da experiência de visita a centros de ciências. Os resultados indicam que as interações e o engajamento estiveram presentes, principalmente em episódios em que os adolescentes interagem ativamente com a exposição, uns com os outros, e quando conversam sobre como a exposição funciona. Observa-se também que existem condições iniciais de interação, que incentivaram o engajamento cognitivo dos jovens ao apoiar a construção de significado ou a formação de algum tipo de conexão com os conteúdos abordados na exposição.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In this study, we aimed to understand how adolescents interact and engage in an interactive science exhibition and the learning experiences provided by the visit. Five groups of teenagers between 14 and 17 years old participated in the study, visiting, outside the school context, the long-term exhibition &#8220;Explora&#8221;, from the Pavilhão do Conhecimento &#8211; Centro Ciência Viva, in Lisbon (Portugal). The investigation is characterized by a case study combined with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The audiovisual records of the visits were analyzed with a protocol that combines theoretical and empirical aspects of the experience of visiting science centers. The results indicate that interactions and engagement were present, especially in episodes in which adolescents actively interact with the exhibition, with each other, and when they talk about how the exhibition works. It is also observed that there are initial conditions of interaction, which encouraged the cognitive engagement of young people by supporting the construction of meaning or the formation of some type of connection with the contents covered in the exhibition.]]></p></abstract>

La investigación se caracteriza por un estudio de caso combinado con un enfoque cuantitativo y cualitativo. Los registros audiovisuales de las visitas fueron analizados con un protocolo que combina aspectos teóricos y empíricos de la experiencia de visitar los centros de ciencia. Los resultados indican que las interacciones y la participación estuvieron presentes, especialmente en episodios en los que los adolescentes interactúan activamente con la exposición, entre ellos, y cuando hablan de cómo funciona la exposición. También se observa que existen condiciones iniciales de interacción, que incentivaron el compromiso cognitivo de los jóvenes al apoyar la construcción de significado o la formación de algún tipo de conexión con los contenidos cubiertos en la exposición.]]></p></abstract>
