A pesquisa tem a sua matriz teórica na sociologia da infância, com tónica nas questões referentes à participação da criança. O objetivo principal é compreender que dimensões de participação da criança estão presentes no brincar ao ar livre em contextos de educação de infância. O trabalho de campo decorreu em dois jardins de infância com práticas pedagógicas que privilegiam o brincar ao ar livre, um deles na Noruega e o outro em Portugal. Para dar resposta à questão de investigação utilizámos a metodologia de estudo de caso de inspiração etnográfica. A partir dos resultados, discutimos temas que emergiram na nossa análise e, relativamente ao jardim de infância em Portugal, distinguimos dois eixos de reflexão. Um dos eixos revela a participação através de decisões das crianças, sobretudo em momentos informais, através da escolha dos espaços onde brincam, dos materiais, bem como dos tempos e atividades. O segundo eixo integra as iniciativas e realizações das crianças, que se referem à sua participação, sobretudo sob a forma de ação, através do corpo e do movimento. Neste artigo, destacamos o brincar com riscos, as explorações e descobertas, as construções e os desafios e problemas. As conclusões do estudo revelam que o ar livre, enquanto lugar do brincar, parece contribuir para um alargamento das dimensões espaço e tempo na experiência das crianças.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The research on the basis of this paper arises from a central concern regarding contemporary childhood and the threats that have been carried out about outdoor play. This study also has its theoretical matrix in the sociology of childhood, with a focus on issues related to children's participation. We proposed to understand the dimensions of participation of children in outdoor play in early childhood education contexts. The fieldwork took place in two kindergartens with pedagogical practices that privilege outdoor play, one in Norway and the other one in Portugal. To answer our research question, we used the ethnographic-inspired case study methodology, seeking a dialogue between the two contexts under study. From the results, we discussed themes that emerged in our analysis and, regarding the kindergarten in Portugal, we built two axes of reflection. One of the axes reveals participation through children's decisions, manifested in part by speech and in part by action. Children's decisions are revealed above all in informal moments, through the choice of spaces where they play, materials, their times and activities. The second axis includes the children's initiatives and achievements, which refer to their participation mainly in the form of action, through the body and the movement. In this paper, we highlight actions that refer to playing with risks, explorations and discoveries, constructions, as well as challenges and problems. We also emphasize that the outdoors as a place of play seems to contribute to an expansion of the space and time dimensions in children's experience.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: La investigación que dio origen a este artículo surge de una preocupación central respecto de la infancia contemporánea por las amenazas que se han dirigido al juego al aire libre. La investigación también tiene su matriz teórica en la sociología de la infancia, con énfasis en cuestiones relacionadas con la participación infantil. El objetivo principal es comprender qué dimensiones de la participación infantil están presentes en el juego al aire libre en contextos de educación infantil. El trabajo de campo se realizó en dos jardines de infancia con prácticas pedagógicas que favorecen el juego al aire libre, uno en Noruega y otro en Portugal. Para responder a la pregunta de investigación utilizamos la metodología de estudio de caso de inspiración etnográfica. A partir de los resultados, discutimos temas que surgieron en nuestro análisis y, en relación con el jardín de infancia en Portugal, construimos dos ejes de reflexión. Uno de los ejes revela la participación a través de las decisiones de los niños, especialmente en momentos informales, a través de la elección de espacios donde juegan, materiales, así como tiempos y actividades. El segundo eje integra las iniciativas y logros de los niños, que se refieren a su participación principalmente en forma de acción, a través del cuerpo y el movimiento. En este artículo destacamos jugar con riesgos, exploraciones y descubrimientos, construcciones, así como desafíos y problemas. Las conclusiones del estudio revelan que el aire libre como lugar de juego parece contribuir a ampliar las dimensiones espacio y temporal en la experiencia de los niños.]]></p></abstract>
