É causada pelo contacto com moléculas de baixo peso molecular que funcionam como haptenos e induzem uma reação de hipersensibilidade tardia do tipo IV em indivíduos suscetíveis. São poucos os dados europeus ou nacionais sobre a prevalência desta patologia. Neste trabalho apresentamos dois casos clínicos de doentes com reação alérgica a um biocida frequentemente utilizado nas tintas aquosas e em alguns cosméticos, com um padrão de sensibilização de partículas aerotransportadas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Allergic contact dermatitis is a frequent reason for referral to Dermatology and Immunoallergology Departments. It is caused by the interaction of low&#8209;molecular&#8209;weight haptens with the skin, which will then induce a delayed&#8209;type IV hypersensitivity in susceptible individuals. The prevalence of this disease is not well established. Hereby we describe two clinical cases of patients who developed an airborne allergic contact dermatitis to a biocide present in many cosmetics and water&#8209;based paints.]]></p></abstract>
