Por outro lado, a evolução das tecnologias de informação e comunicação potencia a utilização de novos métodos de recolha de dados e permite a disponibilização de ferramentas digitais para recolha de dados de forma continuada, nomeadamente através da constituição de um painel online de participantes.  Objetivos:  O objetivo principal deste projeto é a constituição de um painel online nacional de pessoas com asma para vigilância de variações do controlo da doença ao longo dos próximos 10 anos (2020-2030). Para tal pretendemos desenvolver e implementar uma plataforma online para recolha continuada de dados relacionados com asma em Portugal e realizar um estudo inicial cujo objetivo principal é estimar a variação, entre 2010 e 2021, da proporção de pessoas com asma não controlada em Portugal. Métodos: Estudo observacional contínuo baseado na constituição de uma coorte dinâmica de pessoas com asma, usando uma plataforma online que irá incluir um questionário inicial a ser complementado, numa segunda fase, por questões adicionais de caracterização. Serão incluídos adolescentes (&gt;14 anos) e adultos com asma atual (diagnóstico prévio de asma, ou duas ou mais respostas positivas a um questionário de rastreio validado ou que estão atualmente a tomar medicação para a asma) residentes em Portugal. O controlo da asma será baseado no Teste do controlo da asma e rinite alérgica (CARAT) e definido pela pontuação global &gt;24 ou pontuação das vias aéreas inferiores &#8805;16.  Resultados esperados:  Este projeto permitirá a obtenção de um painel dinâmico de pessoas com asma recrutado através de um questionário online. Por outro lado, a implementação de uma plataforma online para recolha de dados sobre asma de forma continuada permitirá a obtenção de informação atual e robusta, baseada em dados do &#8216;mundo-real&#8217;, colhida usando um método de fácil implementação, de elevado alcance e com possibilidade de atualização frequente. Os dados obtidos no estudo inicial permitirão um melhor conhecimento dos fatores determinantes da gestão e controlo da doença e do seu impacto na utilização de recursos de saúde.  Conclusão:  A constituição de um painel de doentes que, juntamente com a disponibilização de uma ferramenta online de apoio a estudos observacionais, têm o potencial de gerar conhecimento sobre a evolução da gestão da asma a nível nacional. Desta forma o projeto contribuirá para informar políticas de saúde, com vista a melhorar os resultados clínicos das pessoas com asma em Portugal.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Background:  Since the last Portuguese National Asthma Survey (2010), important developments on the knowledge of asthma, its classification, and therapeutic options have occurred. Also, the evolution of information and communication technologies promotes the use of new data collection methodologies and the existence of digital tools simplifies longitudinal data collection, namely by the establishment of an online panel of participants.  Objectives:  The main objective of this project is the establishment of a national panel of patients with asthma for the surveillance of variations on disease control in the next 10 years (2020-2030). With that purpose, we aim to develop and implement an online platform for the collection of data related to asthma in Portugal and to carry out an initial study to estimate the variation, between 2010 and 2021, of the proportion of patients with uncontrolled asthma in Portugal.  Methods: This is an ongoing observational study based on the establishment of an open cohort of patients with asthma, using an online platform that will include an initial questionnaire and, in a second step, complementary questions for further characterization. The study population consists of adolescents (&gt;14 years old) and adults with current asthma (previous diagnosis of asthma, or two or more positive answers to validated screening questionnaire, or who are currently taking asthma medication), living in Portugal. Asthma control will be based on the Control of Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Test (CARAT) and defined by a total score &gt; 24 or the lower airways score &#8805; 16.  Expected results:  With this project, an open cohort of patients with asthma will be obtained through an online questionnaire. Also, the implementation of an online platform for an ongoing collection of data on asthma will gather up-to-date and robust information based on &#8216;real world&#8217; data, collected using an easy-to-use, high-reach methodology. The data obtained in the initial study will improve the knowledge of the determinants of disease management and its impact on the use of health resources.  Conclusion:  The establishment of an online panel of patients with asthma that, together with an online tool to support observational studies have the potential to generate knowledge on the evolution of asthma management at the national level. This project will therefore contribute to inform health policies and improve the clinical outcomes of patients with asthma in Portugal.]]></p></abstract>
