Condições de base alérgica, associadas a eritema inflamatório, e várias complicações como alopecia e infeções secundárias, surgem comummente associadas. A avaliação do nível da barreira cutânea e o restabelecimento do seu efeito é fundamental. Defeitos na constituição lipídica e proteica da pele contribuem, em humanos e animais, para a diminuição da função de barreira, favorecendo a penetração em profundidade de diferentes agentes. Essa penetração por alergénios ou microrganismos desencadeia uma resposta imunitária com maior ou menor inflamação e prurido, num contexto em que a predisposição genética para sensibilização e alergia apresenta um papel fundamental. Similaridades constitucionais, relevantes para o efeito de barreira da pele, foram identificadas entre o Homem e o cão, associadas à suscetibilidade alérgica, podendo ambos constituir modelo mútuo numa sociedade em que, partilhando o espaço, se sujeitam ao mesmo expossoma.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT One important motivation for veterinary consultation is related to dermatological conditions, being pruritus a frequent complaint. Allergic-based conditions associated with inflammatory erythema and various complications, such as alopecia and secondary infections, are commonly associated. Assessing the level of the skin barrier and restoring its effect is essential. Defects in skin lipid and protein constitution contribute in humans and animals to the reduction of the barrier function, favoring deep penetration of different agents. Penetration by allergens or microorganisms triggers an immune response with more or less inflammation and itching, in a context in which the genetic predisposition to sensitization and allergy plays a fundamental role. Constitutional similarities, relevant for the skin barrier effect, have been identified between humans and dog, associated with allergic susceptibility, and may constitute a two-way model in a society where, sharing the space, they both subject to the same exposome.]]></p></abstract>
