<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0871-97212022000400287&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0871-97212022000400287&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0871-97212022000400287&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[RESUMO Nos últimos anos, o pólen produzido pelas plantas da família Amaranthaceae tem ganho uma maior relevância como causa de alergia dado que as plantas desta família têm a capacidade de colonizar rapidamente zonas sob condições adversas que têm vindo a aumentar nalgumas regiões do mundo devido às alterações climáticas. Objetivos: 1) Analisar a prevalência e o comportamento aerobiólogico do pólen de Amaranthaceae na região do Alentejo; 2) analisar a influência dos fatores meteorológicos sobre as concentrações de pólen atmosféricas; e 3) avaliar os níveis de exposição. Material e métodos: Para o estudo utilizaram-se os dados das concentrações médias diárias do pólen atmosférico de Amaranthaceae de 2001 a 2019, recolhidos na estação de monitorização de Évora da Rede Portuguesa de Aerobiologia - RPA e os dados diários dos parâmetros meteorológicos cedidos pelo Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera - IPMA. Resultados: O pólen de Amaranthaceae apresentou uma baixa representatividade sempre &lt;1%. O índice de pólen anual médio foi de 400 ± 112 grãos de pólen. A estação polínica ocorreu entre abril e outubro, durou em média de 161 ± 16 dias, e observaram-se dois períodos distintos, um na primavera e outro no verão. Entre os níveis de pólen e os parâmetros meteorológicos obtiveram-se correlações estatisticamente significativas. Níveis de exposição superiores a 10 grãos/m3 registaram-se maioritariamente em maio, mas também no início de junho, em agosto e setembro. Conclusão: Apesar da baixa representatividade, das baixas concentrações, registam-se dias cujos níveis de exposição a este tipo de pólen oferecem risco de desencadearem sintomas de alergia na população. Ocorre no ar simultaneamente com outros pólenes de elevada alergenicidade, gramíneas e oliveira, com os quais apresenta reatividade cruzada. Este estudo demonstra a importância da monitorização deste tipo de pólen e a sua utilidade na clínica para a melhoria da qualidade de vida dos doentes com sensibilização ao pólen.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT In recent years, the relevance of pollen of Amaranthaceae plants family as cause of allergy has increased. The plants from this family have the ability to rapidly colonize areas under adverse conditions which has been increase in some regions of the world due to climate change. The objectives of this study were: 1) To analyze the prevalence and aerobiological behavior of Amaranthaceae pollen in the Alentejo region; 2) to analyze the influence of meteorological factors on atmospheric pollen concentrations; and 3) to assess the pollen levels of exposition. Material and methods: For the study, Amaranthaceae pollen data from the Évora monitoring station of the Portuguese Aerobiology Network, from 2001 to 2019, and meteorological data of Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, were used. Results: Amaranthaceae pollen showed a low representativeness in the pollen spectrum of the atmosphere, always &lt; 1%. The average pollen Index was 400 ± 112 pollen grains. Amaranthaceae pollen season occurred between April and October, with an average duration of 161 ± 16 days, and with two distinct peaks periods, one in the spring and the other in the summer. Correlations between daily pollen counts and meteorological parameters were obtained. Exposure levels above 10 grains/m3 were mostly recorded in May, but also in early June, in August and September. Conclusion: Despite the low representativeness in the pollen spectrum of the atmosphere, its presence in the air in low concentrations, this pollen type may be an importante cause of pollen allergy in region. Amaranthaceae pollen occurs in the air with other pollens with high allergological capacity simultaneously, with grasses and olive trees pollens, with which it presents cross-reactivity. This study shows the importance of Amaranthaceae pollen monitoring and its clinical usefulness for improving the quality of life of patients with pollen sensitization.]]></p></abstract>
