Descrição do caso: doente com alergia ao coco em idade adulta, diagnóstico com prova de provocação ao coco positiva e estudo molecular através de SDS-PAGE immunoblotting, no qual se detetaram proteínas fixadoras de IgE. Tendo em conta a sua massa molecular, admite-se que sejam as globulinas 7S e 11S do coco. Conclusões: As globulinas 7S e 11S são proteínas de armazenamento do coco, provavelmente associadas a reações alérgicas graves, que os autores defendem serem as responsáveis no caso descrito. Apesar de a alergia ao coco ser rara, a utilização generalizada deste ingrediente em diferentes tipos de produtos (alimentares e cosméticos) faz com que seja uma entidade a ser tida em conta.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT IgE mediated coconut allergy is rare, with cases described in the literature of anaphylactic and non-anaphylactic reactions, the second being more prevalent. Case description: adult patient with coconut allergy, diagnosed with positive coconut challenge test and molecular study by SDS-PAGE immunoblotting, in which IgE-binding proteins were detected. Due to their molecular mass, they may be the coconut globulins 7S and 11S. Discussion/conclusions: 7S and 11S globulins are coconut storage proteins, probably associated with severe allergic reactions, and are strongly implicated by the authors as potential contributors to the severe allergic reactions described in the case. Although coconut allergy is rare, the widespread use of this ingredient in different types of products (food and cosmetics) makes it an entity to be considered.]]></p></abstract>
