XIX, tendo-se assistido, desde então, a um desenvolvimento de métodos, técnicas e procedimentos para deteção e análise de partículas biológicas presentes no ar. A nível mundial, existem inúmeras redes de aerobiologia e diversos protocolos operacionais e análise a serem utilizados, conduzindo a problemas de estandardização universal e de comparabilidade das medições. Para colmatar esta lacuna no contexto europeu, foi elaborado um documento técnico padronizado que, em 2019, passou a norma europeia, com as especificações técnicas contundentes à amostragem e análise de grãos de pólen e esporos de fungos aerotransportados, baseadas no método volumétrico de Hirst. Este protocolo descreve a metodologia apresentada pela EN 16868:2019 que uma rede de aerobiologia ligada à alergia deve adotar. A Norma EN 16868:2019 encontra-se oficialmente escrita em quatro idiomas (inglês, francês, alemão e espanhol), não existindo a sua adaptação e tradução em português. Este documento descreve as especificações técnicas publicadas na Norma Europeia EN 16868:2019. O seu uso garantirá a qualidade e a fiabilidade das informações aerobiológicas resultantes divulgadas e usadas pela população, médicos e agências governamentais, visando melhorar a saúde e a qualidade de vida dos doentes com doença alérgica respiratória. Ética e divulgação: Neste trabalho não foram utilizadas amostras biológicas de natureza humana ou animal. A norma EN 16868:2019, atualmente aplicada na Rede Portuguesa de Aerobiologia (RPA), pode assim ser adaptada em outros países de língua portuguesa.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The relationship between pollen and allergy was recognized at the end of the XIX century and since then there has been a development of methods, techniques and procedures for detecting and analyzing biological particles in the air. Worldwide, there are several aerobiology networks and different operational and analysis protocols being used, leading to problems of universal standardization and comparability of measurements. To fill this gap in the European context, a standardized European technical document was elaborated, which passed to European Norm in 2019, with technical specifications for the sampling and analysis of pollen grains and airborne fungal spores based on Hirst&#8217;s volumetric method. This document aims to describe the methodology presented by the European Standard EN 16868:2019 and which must be adopted by any aerobiology network related to allergies. The Standard EN 16868:2019 is officially written in four languages (English, French, German, and Spanish), with no adaptation or translation into Portuguese. This document describes the technical specifications published in the European standard EN 16868:2019. Its use will guarantee the quality and reliability of aerobiological information disseminated and used by the population, physicians, and government agencies, with the purpose to improve the health and quality of life of patients with allergic respiratory disease. Ethics and Disclosure: This work did not involve the use of biological samples of human or animal nature. The EN 16868:2019 standard, currently applied in the Portuguese Aerobiology Network (RPA), can therefore be adapted in other Portuguese-speaking countries.]]></p></abstract>
