Geralmente tem manifestações inespecíficas, sendo o diagnóstico imagiológico. O tratamento de primeira linha é a anticoagulação. O nosso objetivo foi caracterização da população diagnosticada com TVC na Unidade de AVC do Centro Hospitalar de Setúbal.  Métodos:  Estudo retrospetivo e descritivo dos casos de TVC internados na Unidade de AVC entre 2008 e 2018. Os dados foram colhidos do registo informático hospitalar e re­gistados numa base de dados. Analisámos características demográficas, clínicas, imagiológicas, dados da investigação etiológica e outcome funcional (Escala de Rankin modificada).  Resultados: Dos 27 pacientes incluídos, 21 (78%) foram mulheres e a idade média foi de 43,5 anos. A apresentação mais frequente foi a cefaleia (96,3%). A contraceção oral constituiu o fator de risco mais comum (44,4%). O exame inicial foi a tomografia computorizada crânio-encefálica (TC-CE) em 23 (85,2%) utentes, dos quais 20 apresentaram características evocativas de TVC. O diagnóstico foi confirmado por venoTC ou ressonância magnética crânio-encefálica (RM-CE). Mais de metade apresentaram envolvimento de mais do que uma estrutura venosa. A heparina foi administrada a todos os pacientes e o estado clínico à alta foi favorável em 25 casos.  Conclusão:  A TVC afetou sobretudo mulheres jovens, sendo a contraceção oral um fator de risco preponderante. O quadro clínico foi tendencialmente inespecífico, sendo que as cefaleias foram a manifestação mais frequente. Perante suspeita clínica significativa, uma TC-CE negativa não exclui o diagnóstico e a investigação deve ser prosseguida com RM-CE e angiografia por ressonância magnética (angio-RM). É importante o reconhecimento desta patologia, que continua subdiagnosticada.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  lntroduction: Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare type of stroke that is more frequent in young women. This condition presents generally with nonspecific signs and symptoms, and the diagnosis is based on imaging of the brain venous circulation. First-line treatment is anticoagulation Our objective was to characterization of the population diagnosed with cvr in stroke Unit of Setubal hospital.  Methods:  Retrospective and descriptive study of cvr cases admitted to our Stroke Unit between 2008 and 2018. Data were collected from the hospital system records and registered in a database. We analyzed demographic, clinical and imaging characteristics and data from the etiological investigation and functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale).  Results:  Of the 27 patients included, 21 (78%) were women and the mean age was 43.5 years. The most frequent presentation was headache (96.3%). An oral contraceptive was the most common risk factor identified (44.4%). The initial examination was made by head computed tomography (CT) scan in 23 (85.2%) patients, out of the 20 evocative characteristics of CVT. Diagnosis was confirmed by CT venography or mag­netic resonance angiography (MRA). More than 50% of patients had involvement of more than one venous structure. A heparin-based treatment was administered to ai! patients and the clinical status for discharge was favourable in 25 cases.  Conclusion:  cvr mainly affected young women, with oral contraception being a major risk factor. The clinical picture tended to be nonspecific, with headache as the most frequent manifestation. ln case of clinical suspicion, a negative head CT does not exclude the diagnosis and the investigation should be continued with MR and MRA. lt is important to recognize this pathology, which remains underdiagnosed.]]></p></abstract>
