Contudo, este tema é ainda pouco estudado empiricamente.  Objetivo: Analisar a capacidade terapêutica da ozonoterapia como coadjuvante na cicatrização de feridas e diminuição da dor.  Métodos:  Estudo exploratório, transversal e retrospetivo e de caráter descritivo. A análise dos dados teve por base estatística descritiva e inferencial com recurso ao teste de Mann-Whitney e de Friedman (dados contínuos) e do teste Qui-quadrado/Fisher (dados dicotómicos ou ordinais).  Resultados:  Foram incluídas 20 pessoas, maioritariamente do sexo feminino (55%) e com uma média de idade de 61,9 anos (±16,7). Um estado de cicatrização mais agravado e níveis mais elevados de dor inicial estão associados à não cicatrização (p=0,02; p=0,03, respetivamente). Em relação à evolução temporal da cicatrização das feridas e dos níveis de dor (início, 1.º mês, 2.º mês e 3.º mês) observou-se uma redução gradual dos valores, o que se traduz numa melhoria significativa de cicatrização e redução da dor. A cicatrização não ocorreu apenas em 35% (n=7) dos casos.  Conclusão:  A ozonoterapia melhorou a cicatrização das feridas e reduziu os níveis de dor associados. Contudo, dado a reduzida amostra torna-se necessário replicar o estudo em amostras mais alargadas e com entidades nosológicas diversificadas para validar as mais valias desta intervenção terapêutica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  Ozone is considered a potent antimicrobial agent and is therefore used as a complementary therapy for wound healing and pain reduction. However, this subject is still little empirically studied.  Objetive: To analyse the therapeutic capacity of ozone therapy as an adjuvant in wound healing and pain reduction.  Methods:  This was an exploratory, cross-sectional, retrospective, and descriptive study. Data analysis was based on descriptive and inferential statistics using the Mann-Whitney and Friedman tests (continuous data) and the Chi-square/Fisher test (dichotomous or ordinal data).  Results:  Twenty people were included, mostly females (55%) and with a mean age of 61.9 years (±16.7). A more aggravated state of healing and higher levels of initial pain were associated to non-healing (p=0.02; p=0.03, respectively). Regarding the time evolution of wound healing and pain levels (baseline, 1st month, 2nd month and 3rd month) a gradual reduction of values was observed, which reflects a significant improvement of healing and pain reduction. Healing did not occur in only 35% (n=7) of the cases.  Conclusion: Ozone therapy improved wound healing and reduced the associated pain levels. However, given the small sample size, it is necessary to replicate the study in larger samples and with diversified nosological entities to validate the benefits of this therapeutic intervention.]]></p></abstract>

Sin embargo, este tema está todavía poco estudiado empíricamente.  Objetivo:  Analizar la capacidad terapéutica de la ozonoterapia como coadyuvante en la cicatrización de heridas y la disminución del dolor.  Métodos:  Estudio exploratorio, transversal y retrospectivo, de carácter descriptivo. El análisis de los datos se basó en la estadística descriptiva e inferencial mediante las pruebas de Mann-Whitney y Friedman (datos continuos) y la prueba de Chi-cuadrado/Fisher (datos dicotómicos u ordinales).  Resultados:  Se incluyeron 20 pacientes, principalmente mujeres (55%) y con una edad media de 61,9 años (±16,7). Un estado más agravado de la cicatrización y niveles más altos de dolor inicial se asociaron con la no cicatrización (p=0,02; p=0,03, respectivamente). En cuanto a la evolución temporal de la cicatrización de la herida y los niveles de dolor (inicio, primer mes, segundo mes y tercer mes) se observó una reducción gradual de los valores, lo que se traduce en una mejora significativa de la cicatrización y la reducción del dolor. La cicatrización no se produjo sólo en el 35% (n=7) de los casos.  Conclusión:  La ozonoterapia mejoró la cicatrización de las heridas y redujo los niveles de dolor asociados. Sin embargo, dado el pequeño tamaño de la muestra, es necesario replicar el estudio en muestras más grandes y con entidades nosológicas diversificadas para validar los beneficios de esta intervención terapéutica.]]></p></abstract>
