Estratégias empresariais de origem imigrante em Portugal: oportunidades étnicas e estruturais e recursos pessoais

Resumo

No passado acreditou-se que os empregos em empresas de imigrantes eram equivalentes ao segmento inferior do mercado de trabalho das sociedades de acolhimento, e que diminuíam as possibilidades de mobilidade social futura. Porém, estudos recentes mostraram que esse não é o caso. Empregos em empresas de co-étnicos podem ser o melhor modo de aceder a posições de supervisão ou liderança e de adquirir o capital necessário para o desenvolvimento de negócios próprios. Com o intuito de explorar essas novas estratégias de integração económica no mercado português, introduzidas pelos imigrantes e seus descendentes, realizou-se um inquérito por questionário a empresários de origem cabo-verdiana, chinesa e indiana.

Immigrants entrepreneurial strategies in Portugal: ethnic and structural opportunities, and personal resources

Abstract

In the past, researches make believe that the employment in ethnic businesses was equivalent to an inferior segment of the host societies’ labour market and that decreased the social mobility of immigrants. However recent studies proved that this is not the case. In fact, the employment in ethnic businesses can be the best way to access supervision positions and financial resources to develop other entrepreneurial activities. Having that in mind this article examines these new forms of immigrants’ economic integration in the Portuguese labour market. The characterization of these entrepreneurial strategies is further explored using the results of a survey undertaken with three immigrant populations: Cape-Verdeans, Chinese and Indians.

Stratégies d'entreprises créées par des immigrés au Portugal: opportunités ethniques et structurelles et ressources personnelles

Résumé

On a cru pendant longtemps que les emplois dans les entreprises créées par des immigrés relevaient du segment le plus bas du marché du travail des sociétés d’accueil et qu’ils diminuaient les chances de mobilité sociale future. Or, des études récentes ont montré que ce n’est pas le cas. Les emplois dans les entreprises de co-ethniques peuvent être la meilleure manière d’accéder à des postes d’encadrement ou de direction et d’obtenir le capital nécessaire pour créer sa propre entreprise. Afin d’étudier ces nouvelles stratégies d’intégration économique sur le marché portugais, introduites par les immigrés et leurs descendants, une enquête par questionnaire a été menée auprès d’entrepreneurs d’origine cap-verdienne, chinoise et indienne.

Resumen

En el pasado se creía que los empleos en empresas de inmigrantes eran equivalentes al segmento inferior del mercado de trabajo de las sociedades de acogimiento, y que disminuían las posibilidades de movilidad social futura. Sin embargo, estudios recientes demostraron que ése no es el caso. Empleos en empresas de co-étnicos pueden ser el mejor modo de acceder a posiciones de supervisión o liderazgo y de adquirir el capital necesario para el desarrollo de negocios propios. Con la intención de explorar esas nuevas estrategias de integración económica en el mercado portugués, introducidas por los inmigrantes y sus descendientes, se realizó una encuesta a empresarios de origen cabo-verdiano, chino e indio.
