O Programa Especial de Educação ficou conhecido, principalmente, pela construção de mais de 500 escolas - Centros Integrados de Educação Pública (CIEPs) - onde as crianças deveriam receber educação em tempo integral e assistência integral. As unidades monumentais previam atendimento educacional, médico, dentário e assistência especializada. O CIEP era também conhecido como “Brizolão”, uma referência direta ao governador Brizola. O texto acompanha o programa em seus fundamentos, seu percurso e sinaliza razões de sua descontinuidade no estado do Rio de Janeiro.]]></p></abstract>

The Special Education Programme became known, principally, on account of the construction of over 500 schools - CIEPs (Integrated Centres for Public Education) -where the children were to receive a full-time education and comprehensive care. The monumental units provided for educational, medical and dental services and specialised assistance. Another name for a CIEP was “Brizolão”, i. e. Big Brizola, a direct reference to governor Brizola. The text follows the programme through the course of its existence, from its origins, and indicates reasons why it was discontinued in the State of Rio de Janeiro.]]></p></abstract>

Ce programme s’est surtout fait connaître grâce à la construction de plus de 500 écoles - Centres intégrés d’éducation publique (CIEP) - où les enfants devaient recevoir une éducation à plein temps et une assistance intégrale. En plus du volet éducationnel, les centres offraient une assistance médicale, dentaire et spécialisée. Le CIEP était aussi appelé “ Brizolão ”, une référence directe au gouverneur Brizola. Le texte rappelle les fondements du programme, sa mise en œuvre, et il souligne les raisons de sa discontinuité dans l’état de Rio de Janeiro.]]></p></abstract>
