A estratégia de pesquisa assenta na análise interpretativa de entrevistas com 45 atores sociais dos campos da avaliação e do terceiro setor, e na aplicação de um inquérito por questionário a representantes de 575 OTS a operar em Portugal. A análise permite ponderar a implicação e relevância de uma diversidade de variáveis associadas quer ao ambiente interno, quer ao contexto institucional, na configuração das conceções e práticas de avaliação, e aferir sobre as barreiras e fatores potenciadores do papel da avaliação no reforço da missão das organizações. A composição de quatro perfis de avaliação distintos, a partir de procedimentos estatísticos exploratórios, e suas implicações diferenciadas na aprendizagem organizacional, permite lançar pistas importantes para a (re)definição das políticas públicas para o setor.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article explores patterns of representations and practices of evaluation in third sector organizations (TSO), within the framework of accountability relationships. The research strategy is based on 45 semi-structured interviews with different agents of the evaluation and the third sector fields, and an online questionnaire to 575 representatives of TSO operating in Portugal. The analysis estimates the influence and relevance of a diversity of variables associated with both internal and institutional environments upon the configuration of evaluation practices and representations, and assesses the barriers and factors that enhance the role of evaluation in strengthening the organization&#8217;s mission. The composition of four distinct evaluation profiles, based on exploratory statistical procedures, and their different implications for organizational learning, provides important clues for the (re)definition of public policies for the sector.]]></p></abstract>
