</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract This article questions the consistency, reasonableness, and fruitfulness of the methodological proposals and idea of anthropological knowledge of the “ontological turn” in anthropology. Taking as its starting point the book manifesto produced by Martin Holbraad and Morten Pedersen, the article seeks to show that the ontological turn remains bound to vexed assumptions that the discipline often chooses not to contemplate critically and that do not withstand the pragmatic maxim. We argue that the ontological turn as a methodological device does not bring about the effective and consequential transformation of anthropological modes of enquiry that it genetically seeks. Furthermore, we argue that if this transformation is a goal, their authors would need to follow paths they avoided and previously opened through Heidegger’s and Gadamer’s hermeneutic phenomenology.
</abstract>
