Este artigo propõe uma análise textual cuidadosa das técnicas implementadas por Eliot para averiguar se incentivam uma representação misógina da figura feminina enquanto símbolo de passividade e ausência de autonomia. Examina-se se o uso de referências bíblicas, clássicas e mitológicas reforça uma visão patriarcal, buscando-se contribuir para a discussão sobre gênero e representação na literatura modernista.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The Waste Land (1922) sparked debates on the treatment of the female question, especially in light of Gilbert and Gubar&#8217;s literary analysis (No Man&#8217;s Land: The Place of the Woman Writer in the Twentieth Century, 1988). This article proposes a careful textual analysis of Eliot&#8217;s techniques to determine if they encourage a misogynistic representation of the female figure as a symbol of passivity and lack of autonomy. It examines whether the use of biblical, classical, and mythological references reinforces a patriarchal view, aiming to contribute to the discussion on gender and representation in modernist literature.]]></p></abstract>
