Estes temas permeiam aspetos importantes da obra de duas artistas portuguesas expatriadas em Inglaterra: Ana Palma e, embora menos central a este estudo, Paula Rego.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The branch of the visual arts related to menstruation (&#8216;menstrala&#8217;: a term first used by Vanessa Tiegs) and associated themes (childbirth, motherhood, taboo) carries associations with the feminist movement, discrimination and the nature of female existence in gender-unbalanced contexts. These themes define important aspects of the work of two artists Portuguese artists expatriated in the United Kingdom: Ana Palma and, focused here to a lesser extent, Paula Rego.]]></p></abstract>
