A adesão ao tratamento, bem como a conscientização de toda a população quanto à prevenção, têm sido as maiores dificuldades encontradas por quem lida diariamente com o HIV, daí o empenho em buscar o máximo de informações que sirvam de subsídios para uma prevenção e tratamento mais eficazes. O objetivo desta pesquisa era conhecer a eficácia adaptativa em pacientes portadores do HIV. O estudo foi desenvolvido no Projeto Esperança de São Miguel Paulista, São Paulo (PROJESP), que atende portadores do HIV. Foram realizados 27 entrevistas clínicas preventivas e os dados analisados através da EDAO - Escala Diagnóstica Adaptativa Operacionalizada (Simon, 1989). Os resultados mostraram que 77% dos pacientes enquadram-se em Adaptação Ineficaz Severa e Grave, 12% em Adaptação Ineficaz Leve e 11% com Adaptação Ineficaz Moderada. Estes dados permitem-nos dizer que, em geral, estes indivíduos apresentam graves conflitos psíquicos. Suas respostas aos problemas são ineficazes gerando desprazer e mais conflitos. Estes resultados indicam a necessidade da intervenção psicológica para melhorar a qualidade de vida destes pacientes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The HIV attacks the immunological system and carriers are obliged to live with this chronic illness, implies in diverse physical, psychological, social and economic consequences. The adhesion to the treatment, as well as the awareness of the population about the prevention have been the biggest difficulties for those who daily deal with HIV, hence the persistence in searching the maximum of information for a more efficient prevention and treatment. The objective of this research was to know the adaptative effectiveness in patients with HIV. The study was developed in the Projeto Esperança, São Paulo (PROJESP) that takes care of patients with HIV. A total of 27 preventive clinical interviews was made and the data analyzed through the EDAO - Adaptive Operational Diagnostic Scale (Simon, 1989). The results showed that 77% of the patients had Severe and Serious Inefficacious Adaptation; 12% Light Inefficacious Adaptation and 11% Moderate Inefficacious Adaptation. These data showed that, in general, they had serious psychic conflicts. Their answers to the problems were inefficacious, causing displeasure and more conflicts. These results indicate the necessity of psychological intervention to improve the quality of life of these patients.]]></p></abstract>
