É descrita a metodologia de referência - grounded theory - de cariz qualitativo. Para a recolha dos dados foi usada a entrevista semi-estruturada. A amostra é composta por 10 crianças igualmente distribuídas por género, com idades compreendidas entre os 7 e os 12 anos. A recolha dos dados foi realizada no Hospital Central Especializado de Crianças Maria Pia, no Porto. Os resultados evidenciam a magnitude da experiência de doença nas narrativas destas crianças. São visíveis elementos culturais e sociais nestas narrativas, que permitem uma análise mais detalhada de acordo com alguns modelos de conceptualização narrativa seleccionados. Este estudo alerta ainda para a necessidade de considerar estes aspectos na intervenção junto desta população e reforça também a importância do psicólogo nesta área.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[The current article introduce a study realized near children with type 1 diabetes mellitus, which the main purpose is to understand and explore the disease experience perceived by them. Grounded theory is described as a remarkable methodological framework with qualitative features. Data were collected by semi-structured interview. Ten children, equally shared by gender, with the age range from 7 to 12 years old, compose sampling. The data was collected in Hospital Central Especializado de Crianças Maria Pia. Results showed the magnitude of disease experience of those children, that can be explained by developmental peculiarities. Children narratives showed cultural and social elements, which could be allow a detailed analysis based on selected narrative conceptualized models. This proposal also alerts to focus these features in intervention near this population and reinforce the psychologist role in this field.]]></p></abstract>
