Foi levantada a incidência de reações adversas em 17.723 doadores de sangue, junto a um centro de hemoterapia do interior paulista. Dessa amostra, foram selecionados 70 participantes. Para avaliação do nível de ansiedade dos doadores foi aplicado o Inventário de Ansiedade Estado - Traço (IDATE). Para avaliação do nível de estresse hormonal, foi investigado o nível de cortisol circulante, via amostras de sangue. Dentre os 17.723 doadores, 391 (0,02) apresentaram reações adversas, sendo a incidência mais elevada entre primodoadores (0,078), em comparação a doadores esporádicos (0,015; p&lt;0,0001; OR = 5,4957; 95% Cl: 4,2406 a 7,1223) e fidelizados (0,0106; p&lt;0,0001; OR = 7,8778; 95% Cl = 6,1880 a 10,0291). Não foi detetada diferença significante entre as médias dos escores em Ansiedade-Traço ou Ansiedade-Estado e nas concentrações de cortisol segundo o gênero, idade e nível educacional. A média de concentração de cortisol plasmático foi maior (p=0,001) entre os doadores com maior valor no IDATE-Estado. As médias dos escores em Ansiedade - Estado e o nível médio de cortisol encontrados entre primodoadores foram mais elevadas, em comparação a doadores experientes. A prevalência de reações adversas aqui encontrada vai ao encontro do que prevê a literatura. A maior média de concentração de cortisol plasmático entre os doadores com maior valor no IDATE-Estado sugere a relevância dessas análises como parâmetro indicador das reações de ansiedade, entre candidatos à doação de sangue.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This article assesses the level of anxiety, hormonal stress reactions and the appearance of adverse reactions in a sample of Brazilian blood donors. The incidence of adverse reactions was evaluated in 17,723 blood donors from a hemotherapy center in the interior of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. From this sample, 70 participants were selected. To assess the level of anxiety of donors, the State - Trait Anxiety Inventory (IDATE) was applied. To evaluate the level of hormonal stress, the level of circulating cortisol was investigated via blood samples. Among the 17,723 donors, 391 (0.02) had adverse reactions, with the highest incidence among primmers (0.078), compared to sporadic donors (0.015; p &lt;0.0001; OR = 5.4957; 95% CI: 4.2406 a 7.1223) and fidelity (0.0106; p &lt;0.0001; OR = 7.8778; 95% CI = 6.1880 to 10.0291). No significant difference was detected between the means of the Anxiety-Trace or Anxiety-State scores and the cortisol concentrations according to gender, age and educational level. The mean plasma cortisol concentration was higher (p = 0.001) among donors with higher IDATE-State. The averages of the Anxiety - State scores and the mean cortisol level found among primmers were higher, compared to experienced donors. The prevalence of adverse reactions found here is in line with what the literature predicts. The highest mean plasma cortisol concentration among the donors with higher IDATE-State suggests the relevance of these analyzes as an indicator parameter of anxiety reactions among blood donors.]]></p></abstract>
