<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1646-28902021000400237&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1646-28902021000400237&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1646-28902021000400237&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo  Objetivos:  Caracterizar os conhecimentos e atitudes dos professores portugueses e timorenses da Educação Pré&#8209;Escolar e dos 1.º e 2.º ciclos que lecionam em Timor&#8209; Leste em relação à saúde oral das crianças e seus determinantes.  Métodos:  Neste estudo do tipo transversal, foi aplicado um questionário autoaplicado online para a recolha de dados. Foram convidados a participar neste estudo 13 escolas e 149 professores. Para a análise estatística, foram determinadas as frequências absolutas e relativas, a média e o desvio&#8209;padrão.  Resultados:  Foi obtida uma taxa de participação de 69,1% com 103 professores a reponderem ao questionário. A maioria dos professores era do sexo feminino (66,0%) e de nacionalidade timorense (51,5%). A maioria afirmou verificar a alimentação que os alunos trazem de casa para consumirem na escola (67,0%) e confirma que tem a perceção de quais são os alunos que têm uma higiene oral inadequada (72,8%). A maioria dos participantes, 82,5%, sente necessidade de formação na área da saúde em contexto escolar.  Conclusões:  Foi verificado que os professores tinham um bom conhecimento em relação à saúde oral das crianças, no entanto, estes não eram aproveitados nos programas escolares de educação em saúde oral. É fundamental apostar na formação dos professores para que eles se sintam mais confiantes em ministrar programas escolares de saúde oral e, assim, a escola possa ser um meio eficaz de promoção de saúde oral.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Objectives:  This study aims to characterize the knowledge and attitudes of Portuguese and Timorese pre-school and primary school teachers teaching in Timor-Leste towards children's oral health and its determinants.  Methods:  In this cross-sectional study, an online self-administered questionnaire was applied for data collection. Thirteen schools and 149 teachers were invited to participate in this study. For statistical analysis, absolute and relative frequencies, mean, and standard deviation were determined.  Results:  A participation rate of 69.1% was obtained, with 103 teachers responding to the questionnaire. Most of the teachers were female (66.0%) and of Timorese nationality (51.5%). The majority stated that they check the food students bring from home to eat at school (67.0%), and 72.8 confirmed that they have the perception of which students have inadequate oral hygiene. Most of the participants, 82.5, feel the need for training in the area of health in the school setting.  Conclusions:  Results revealed that teachers had good knowledge about children's oral health; however, this knowledge was not used in school oral-health education programs. It is essential to invest in the training of teachers so that they feel more confident in delivering school oral-health programs and, thus, the school can be an effective means of oral health promotion.]]></p></abstract>
