Esta revisão tem como objetivo elucidar as alterações do microbiota intestinal associadas à diabetes gestacional, a forma como estas contribuem para a sua fisiopatologia, os mecanismos de ação dos probióticos, e o seu papel na prevenção e tratamento da doença. A revisão da literatura mostrou que a diabetes gestacional está associada a um aumento de bactérias gram-negativas e a uma diminuição de bactérias gram-positivas produtoras de ácidos gordos de cadeia curta. Esta disbiose intestinal pode proporcionar alterações na homeostase da glicose através de mecanismos que envolvem a diminuição da secreção de incretinas e o aumento da inflamação. Embora a suplementação com probióticos melhore esta desregulação, a sua utilização durante a gravidez não parece ter um efeito significativo na prevenção e tratamento da diabetes gestacional.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Gut dysbiosis may contribute to the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes, encouraging the emergence of new prevention and treatment approaches based on the use of probiotics. This review aims to elucidate the changes in the gut microbiota associated with gestational diabetes, how they contribute to its pathophysiology, the mechanisms of action of probiotics, and their role in the prevention and treatment of the disease. The literature review showed that gestational diabetes is associated with an increase of gram-negative bacteria and a decrease of gram-positive bacteria producing short-chain fatty acids. This gut dysbiosis can provide changes in glucose homeostasis through mechanisms involving decreased secretion of incretins and increased inflammation. Although probiotic supplementation improves this dysregulation, their use during pregnancy does not appear to have a significant effect on the prevention and treatment of gestational diabetes.]]></p></abstract>
