A literacia em saúde mental constitui uma ferramenta essencial na promoção do conhecimento, prevenção e tratamento de problemas de saúde mental.  Objetivo:  Analisar a relação entre o nível de literacia em saúde mental e o consumo de substâncias em estudantes de Enfermagem.  Metodologia:  Estudo transversal, descritivo-correlacional, com amostra não probabilística por conveniência de 127 estudantes de Enfermagem de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior portuguesa. A recolha de dados decorreu entre abril e maio de 2024, através de questionário online com dados sociodemográficos, o Questionário de Conhecimento de Saúde Mental (QCSM) e a Escala The Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST). A análise foi realizada no SPSS® v.29, recorrendo à estatística descritiva e inferencial. O estudo obteve parecer favorável de uma comissão de ética.  Resultados:  A amostra maioritariamente feminina (77,2%), com idades entre 18 e 42 anos; 22,8% possuíam diagnóstico de saúde mental. A média do QCSM foi de 47,4 (+3,78), observando-se níveis mais elevados nos anos letivos avançados e nos estudantes que frequentaram unidades curriculares de saúde mental (p &#8804; 0,001). As substâncias mais consumidas foram álcool (84,3%), tabaco (42,5%), ansiolíticos/sedativos (22%) e cannabis (21,3%). Não se verificou relação significativa entre a literacia em saúde mental e o consumo de substâncias (r = -0,094 a 0,05).  Conclusão:  A literacia em saúde mental não se associou aos padrões de consumo, reforçando a necessidade de estudos adicionais para explorar outros fatores influenciadores.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  The growing concern about substance use among young adults, especially health science students, reinforces the importance of investigating this phenomenon in higher education. Mental health literacy is an essential tool in promoting knowledge, prevention, and treatment of mental health problems.  Objective:  To analyze the relationship between the level of mental health literacy and substance use among nursing students.  Methodology:  A cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational study with a non-probabilistic convenience sample of 127 nursing students from a Portuguese Higher Education Institution. Data were collected between April and May 2024 through an online questionnaire including sociodemographic data, the Mental Health Knowledge Questionnaire (MHKQ), and the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST). Data analysis was performed using SPSS® v.29, applying descriptive and inferential statistics. The study received ethical approval from a research ethics committee.  Results:  The sample was predominantly female (77.2%), aged between 18 and 42 years; 22.8% reported a mental health diagnosis. The mean MHKQ score was 47.4 (+3.78), with higher levels observed among students in advanced academic years and those who had attended mental health-related courses (p &#8804; 0.001). The most commonly used substances were alcohol (84.3%), tobacco (42.5%), anxiolytics/sedatives (22%), and cannabis (21.3%). No significant relationship was found between mental health literacy and substance use (r = -0.094 to 0.05).  Conclusion:  Mental health literacy does not appear to be associated to substance use patterns, highlighting the need for further studies to explore additional influencing factors.]]></p></abstract>

Objetivo:  Analizar la relación entre el nivel de alfabetización en salud mental y el consumo de sustancias en estudiantes de Enfermería.  Metodología:  Estudio transversal, descriptivo-correlacional, con una muestra no probabilística por conveniencia de 127 estudiantes de Enfermería de una Institución de Educación Superior portuguesa. La recolección de datos se realizó entre abril y mayo de 2024 mediante un cuestionario en línea con datos sociodemográficos, el Cuestionario de Conocimientos en Salud Mental (QCSM) y la escala Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST). El análisis se efectuó con SPSS® v.29, utilizando estadística descriptiva e inferencial. El estudio obtuvo la aprobación de un comité de ética.
