Angola é detentora de elevada biodiversidade com cerca de 8.000 espécies de plantas catalogadas. No entanto, apresenta alguns biomas com sinal de &#8220;stress&#8221;, com áreas de degradação, sendo necessário a inventariação de espécies ameaçadas. Em 2002, um trabalho realizado no âmbito do Programa do Estudo da Biodiversidade da África Austral (SABONET) identificou cerca de 32 espécies. Um esforço para a publicação de uma lista de plantas angolanas ameaçadas resultou numa publicação em 2009, que avaliou 97 espécies de plantas. Novos estudos foram desenvolvidos, com a realização de inventários fitoecológicos em várias províncias do país. Identificaram-se novas áreas degradadas e novos taxa são incluídos na lista de plantas ameaçadas de Angola. Espécies como Julbernardia gossweileri, Diospyros mespiliformis, Tylosema fassoglensis, Uapaca benguelensis, Uapaca gossweileri são listadas pela primeira vez como em perigo de extinção, segundo as categorias da IUCN (União Internacional da Conservação da Natureza).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Introduction: The high biodiversity loss observed worldwide is cause for concern. Angola owns a high biodiversity with about 8,000 cataloged plant species. However, it presents some biomas with sign of &#8220;stress&#8221;, with areas of degradation, being necessary the inventory of endangered species. In 2002, a work carried out under the Southern African Biodiversity Study Program, SABONET, identified about 32 species. An effort to publish a list of threatened Angolan plants resulted in a publication in 2009, evaluating 97 plant species. New studies were developed, with the realization of phytoecological inventories in several provinces of the country. New degraded areas have been identified and new taxa are included in the list of threatened plants of Angola. Species such as Julbernardia gossweileri, Diospyros mespiliformis, Tylosema fassoglensis, Uapaca benguelensis, Uapaca gossweileri are listed as endangered for the first time, according to the categories proposed by IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature).]]></p></abstract>
