Os dispositivos biomédicos, equipamentos e softwares, de diagnóstico ou terapêutica, contribuem para a saúde e qualidade de vida das populações. Com o desenvolvimento da tecnologia e indústria, os dispositivos estão cada vez mais eficazes e seguros. No entanto, surge a urgência de reduzir os resíduos provenientes desses dispositivos, cujo volume tem aumentado consideravelmente, tornando-se uma preocupação ambiental significativa. Este trabalho de revisão tem como objetivo oferecer uma visão geral das práticas de reutilização, reciclagem e do ciclo de vida desses dispositivos, explorando as suas implicações económicas e ambientais. Além disso, promove uma abordagem mais sustentável e eficiente para lidar com esses dispositivos, visando mitigar os impactos ambientais e otimizar o uso dos recursos disponíveis.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The need for the use of biomedical devices has grown in parallel with the increase and aging of the population, resulting in greater use of a variety of devices for support, prevention, control, diagnosis, treatment or replacement. Medical devices, equipment and software, whether diagnostic or therapeutic, contribute to the health and quality of life of populations. With the development of technology and industry, devices are increasingly effective and safe. However, there is an urgency to reduce waste from these devices, the volume of which has increased considerably, becoming a significant environmental concern. This review work aims to offer an overview of the reuse, recycling and life cycle practices of these devices, exploring their economic and environmental implications. Furthermore, it promotes a more sustainable and efficient approach to dealing with these devices, aiming to mitigate environmental impacts and optimize the use of available resources.]]></p></abstract>
