This study aims to measure the online destination image (ODI) portrayed in user-generated content (UGC) on social media by employing the sentiment analysis method. Data were extracted from Facebook and Instagram on the Visit Algarve social media profile. The Algarve region is situated in the south of Portugal and is one of Europe's most popular tourist destinations. The main results shed light on the relevance of intangible heritage experiences as triggers of positive feelings about the destination. Content shared about tourists' activities in the region generates more engagement in the tourism destination's social media. Tangible heritage received the lowest rated sentiment, and destination agents should strategically look into it as there are opportunities for destination management. Tourism infrastructure has the lowest engagement value; therefore, in terms of promotion, it does not generate interest.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo A imagem do destino turístico, complexa, dinâmica e multidimensional por natureza, é moldada por uma infinidade de eventos, interações e impressões sensoriais, especialmente quando o turista se encontra no destino, o que gera o envolvimento dos turistas nas redes sociais. Ao empregar o método de análise de sentimento, este estudo tem como objetivo medir a imagem do destino online retratada no conteúdo gerado pelo utilizador (UGC) nas redes sociais. Os dados foram extraídos do Facebook e do Instagram do perfil das redes sociais do Visit Algarve. A região do Algarve situa-se no sul de Portugal e é um dos destinos turísticos mais populares da Europa. Os principais resultados esclarecem a relevância das experiências de património imaterial como motivadoras de sentimentos positivos sobre o destino. O conteúdo partilhado sobre as atividades turísticas na região é o que gera mais envolvimento nas redes sociais do destino turístico. O património tangível foi o menos valorizado em termos de sentimento, e os agentes de destino devem analisá-lo estrategicamente, pois existem muitas oportunidades ao nível da gestão do destino. Infraestrutura Turística&#8221; tem o valor de envolvimento mais baixo; portanto, em termos de promoção, não gera interesse.]]></p></abstract>
