OBJETIVOS: Determinar a prevalência de Insegurança Alimentar e investigar determinantes associados, na Região Autónoma da Madeira, durante o confinamento geral na pandemia COVID-19.  METODOLOGIA:  Estudo transversal, com aplicação de um questionário por entrevista telefónica assistida por computador a 351 adultos, entre 22-29 de maio 2020. A presença de Insegurança Alimentar foi avaliada através de uma escala de 2 itens utilizada pela Direção-Geral da Saúde. A análise multivariada (regressão logística, método Forward Wald) foi usada para estudar a associação entre Insegurança Alimentar e variáveis demográficas, socioeconómicas e de estilo de vida.  RESULTADOS:  A prevalência de Insegurança Alimentar entre os agregados familiares da Região Autónoma da Madeira foi de 33,6%. No modelo ajustado (para tamanho do agregado familiar, perceção da situação financeira e alteração dos hábitos alimentares) a perceção de uma situação financeira suficiente ou difícil/muito difícil foi associada a maior probabilidade de reportar Insegurança Alimentar. Os inquiridos que partilhavam casa com três ou mais pessoas apresentaram probabilidade quase 2 vezes maior de Insegurança Alimentar , do que aqueles que viviam sozinhos ou partilhavam casa com apenas mais uma pessoa. A alteração de hábitos alimentares, durante o período de contenção, associou-se positivamente ao risco de Insegurança Alimentar  CONCLUSÕES:  Na Região Autónoma da Madeira, 33,6% das famílias foram identificadas em risco de Insegurança Alimentar, durante o período de confinamento pela COVID-19. No futuro, em contextos semelhantes, especial atenção deve ser dada a famílias em situação financeira mais frágil, com agregados familiares de maiores dimensões e com tendência para alterar os seus hábitos alimentares.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  INTRODUCTION:  Food Insecurity is a serious public health problem that may be aggravated by social constraints imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.  OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of Food Insecurity in the population of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and explore associated factors, during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.  METHODOLOGY:  Cross-sectional study, with the application of a questionnaire by computer-assisted telephone interview to 351 adults, between 22-29 May 2020. Multivariate analysis (logistic regression, Forward Wald method) was conducted to study the association between Food Insecurity and demographic, socioeconomic and lifestyle variables.  RESULTS: The prevalence of Food Insecurity among Autonomous Region of Madeira households was 33.6%. In the adjusted model (for household size; perception of financial situation and change in eating habits) the perception of a sufficient financial situation or difficult / very difficult was associated with an increased likelihood of reporting Food Insecurity. Respondents who shared a home with three or more people were almost twice as likely to have Food Insecurity , than those who lived alone or shared a home with just one other person. The change in eating habits, compared to the period of pre-containment, was positively associated with the risk of Food Insecurity .  CONCLUSIONS:  In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, 33.6% of families were identified as at risk for Food Insecurity during COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. In the future, in similar contexts, special attention should be given to families in more fragile financial situations, with larger households and with a tendency to change their eating habits.]]></p></abstract>
