OBJETIVOS:  Realizar uma avaliação antropométrica, caracterizar os hábitos alimentares e avaliar a insegurança alimentar em indivíduos adultos de etnia cigana em Portugal.  METODOLOGIA:  Estudo observacional descritivo transversal numa amostra de conveniência de adultos de 2 comunidades ciganas em Portugal. Aplicaram-se o Questionário de Frequência Alimentar e a Escala de Insegurança Alimentar e recolheram-se dados antropométricos: peso, estatura, perímetro da cintura. Calculou-se o Índice de Massa Corporal e o risco cardiometabólico de acordo com os pontos de corte da Organização Mundial da Saúde. A recolha de dados decorreu entre os meses de dezembro de 2023 e abril de 2024.  RESULTADOS:  Amostra composta por 30 adultos de etnia cigana, 66,7% mulheres, com idade média de 44,7 anos (desvio--padrão=13,2). A maioria apresenta pré-obesidade ou obesidade e risco cardiometabólico (83,3%). A frequência da ingestão de carne e produtos cárneos é maior comparativamente ao peixe e a maioria consome frequentemente laticínios. O consumo de alimentos como toucinho, flocos de cereais, batatas fritas e chocolate é mais frequente em indivíduos com pré-obesidade e obesidade (p&lt;0,05). O valor energético total médio é de 4154 kcal/dia (desvio-padrão=1914). A maioria dos participantes (80%) apresenta insegurança alimentar.  CONCLUSÕES:  Verificou-se um consumo frequente de ovo e carnes em detrimento do peixe bem como de fontes alimentares de açúcar e de produtos de fast-food. O consumo de laticínios e de alguns hortofrutícolas é regular. No geral, a ingestão energética e de nutrientes encontram-se acima das recomendações. Observou-se uma elevada proporção de obesidade, bem como de risco cardiometabólico. Verificou-se ainda insegurança alimentar em grande parte da amostra.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  INTRODUCTION:  Evidence about eating habits in the Roma population is scarce, but it is important for implementing strategies to promote compliance with dietary recommendations and for targeting interventions to reduce diet-related non-communicable diseases.  OBJECTIVES:  To carry out an anthropometric assessment, characterize eating habits and evaluate food insecurity in adult Roma individuals in Portugal.  METHODOLOGY:  A cross-sectional descriptive observational study in a convenience sample of adults from 2 Roma communities in Portugal. The Food Frequency Questionnaire and the Food Insecurity Scale were applied and anthropometric data was collected: weight, height, waist circumference. Body mass index and cardiometabolic risk were calculated according to the World Health Organization cut-off points. Data were collected between December 2023 and April 2024.  RESULTS:  The sample consisted of 30 Roma adults, 66.7% women, with an average age of 44.7 years (standard deviation=13.2). The majority were pre-obese or obese and at cardiometabolic risk (83.3%). Meat and meat products were eaten more often than f ish, and the majority frequently consumed dairy products. Consumption of foods such as bacon, cereal flakes, potato chips and chocolate were more frequent in pre-obese and obese individuals (p&lt;0.05). The average total energy value was 4154 kcal/ day (standard deviation=1914). The majority of participants (80%) were food insecure.  CONCLUSIONS:  There was frequent consumption of eggs and meat to the detriment of fish, as well as food sources of sugar and fast-food products. Consumption of dairy products and some fruit and vegetables was regular. Overall, energy and nutrient intake are above the recommendations. There was a high proportion of obesity, as well as cardiometabolic risk. There was also food insecurity in a large part of the sample.]]></p></abstract>
