No meio laboral, associa-se a maior absentismo, diminuição da performance e maior número de acidentes de trabalho. Estima-se que, em Portugal, 25% dos acidentes de trabalho estejam relacionados com o consumo de álcool, sendo também influenciados por outros fatores individuais, relacionais, comunitários e societais.  Objetivo Este estudo pretende identificar padrões de consumo e características de indivíduos consumidores de bebidas alcoólicas associadas à ocorrência acidentes de trabalho, em Portugal, em 2016 e 2017.  Métodos Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico observacional transversal analítico de dados secundários obtidos no IV Inquérito Nacional ao Consumo de Substâncias Psicoativas na População Geral 2016/2017 (n=12023). A associação de características de indivíduos consumidores de bebidas alcoólicas com a ocorrência de acidentes de trabalho foi estudada através de dois modelos de regressão logística múltipla.  Resultados Na população portuguesa, a prevalência do consumo de bebidas alcoólicas nos últimos doze meses é de 58,3%, entre os quais 6,2% refere consumo de risco, nocivo ou dependente. Verifica-se que o consumo de risco (OR 1,824) e dependente de bebidas alcoólicas (OR 3,981), assim como o consumo superior a dez bebidas por ocasião (OR 3,963) e o binge drinking, se associa à ocorrência de acidentes de trabalho.  Conclusões O presente estudo demonstra uma associação entre o consumo de bebidas alcoólicas e ocorrência de acidentes de trabalho, para a população portuguesa em idade ativa. Esta análise nunca havia sido aplicada a toda a população portuguesa e integra os dados mais recentes sobre o tema. A existência de evidência científica de âmbito nacional poderá contribuir para melhor identificação de perfis do consumo de bebidas alcoólicas em meio laboral, caracterização adequada de acidentes de trabalho e intervenções mais efetivas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction Alcohol consumption is one of the main risk factors associated with mortality and loss of quality of life. In workplace, it is associated with higher absenteeism, decreased performance and greater number of work accidents. In Portugal, approximately 25% of work-related accidents are due to alcohol consumption. They are also influenced by other individual, relational, community and societal factors.  Objectives This study aims to identify alcohol consumption patterns and characteristics of individuals who have reported occupational injuries in Portugal, in 2016 and 2017.  Methodology This is an observational cross-sectional epidemiological study of secondary data from the IV National Survey on the Use of Psychoactive Substances in the General Population 2016/2017 (n = 12023). The association of characteristics of individuals consuming alcoholic beverages with the occurrence of occupational accidents was studied through two multiple logistic regression models.  Results In the Portuguese population, prevalence of last year alcohol consumption is 58.3%, of which 6.2% refer to hazardous, harmful or dependent consumption. Hazardous consumption (OR 1,824) and dependency on alcoholic beverages (OR 3,981), as well as consumption of 10 or more drinks per occasion (OR 3,963) and binge drinking, is associated with the occurrence of occupational accidents.  Conclusions The present study validates the association between the consumption of alcoholic beverages and the occurrence of occupational accidents in the Portuguese population of working age. This analysis includes the most recent data and was never performed for the Portuguese population, outside specific working sites. The existence of scientific evidence of national scope may contribute to better identification of alcohol consumption profiles in the workplace, adequate characterization of work accidents and more effective interventions.]]></p></abstract>
