<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2183-84532020000200088&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2183-84532020000200088&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.pt/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2183-84532020000200088&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[RESUMO  Introdução Trabalhadores com exposição excessiva ao ruído podem desenvolver problemas relacionados à saúde em geral, audição e ter alterações na qualidade de vida, sendo a Perda Auditiva Induzida por Ruído (PAIR) a alteração mais comum associada à audição. Os dentistas, ao utilizarem diferentes tipos de equipamentos para procedimentos clínicos e cirúrgicos acabam por estar expostos ao ruído diariamente. A perda auditiva associa-se à diminuição da qualidade de vida, incluindo um risco aumentado de solidão, isolamento e declínio da aptidão funcional. Considerando-se que a audição é fundamental no processo de sociabilização e, consequentemente, para a comunicação oral, toda e qualquer alteração da percepção auditiva pode desencadear problemas na interação social com impacto negativo para a vida das pessoas.  Objetivo Analisar o impacto do ruído na audição e na qualidade de vida em dentistas do Paraná.  Métodos Trata-se de um estudo do tipo observacional descritivo, de corte transversal, realizado com quarenta dentistas do Sul do Brasil. Os sujeitos da pesquisa realizaram avaliação audiológica básica e audiometria de altas frequências, além de responderem a dois questionários, um sobre qualidade de vida (SF-36) e outro com dados acerca das condições de trabalho, do conhecimento e das percepções dos dentistas referentes à exposição ao ruído no seu trabalho.  Resultados Observaram-se alterações auditivas sugestivas de serem induzidas por ruído em 15% dos dentistas. Na audiometria de altas frequências as alterações auditivas ocorreram em seis profissionais, sendo que em quatro deles houve alteração bilateral. O SF-36 indicou valores medianos de 62,57 para estado geral de saúde e 64 para vitalidade; sendo 100 a pontuação máxima. Constatou-se que 52,5% dos dentistas conhecem os efeitos da exposição ao ruído na saúde, mas apenas 5% declarara utilizar protetor auricular durante o exercício da profissão.  Conclusão A conscientização precoce em relação aos efeitos do ruído traria mais conforto e qualidade de vida aos dentistas, bem como menos problemas de audição.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction Workers with excessive noise exposure can develop problems related to general health, hearing and have changes in quality of life, with Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) being the most common change associated with hearing. Dentists, when using different types of equipment for clinical and surgical procedures, end up being exposed to noise daily. Hearing loss is associated with decreased life quality, including an increased risk of loneliness, isolation and a decline in functional fitness. Considering that hearing is fundamental in the socialization process and, consequently, for oral communication, any and all changes in auditory perception can trigger problems in social interaction with a negative impact on people's lives.  Objective To analyse the impact of noise on hearing and life quality of dentists in Paraná.  Methods This is a descriptive observational, cross-sectional study carried out with forty dentists from southern Brazil. The research subjects underwent basic audiological evaluation and high frequency audiometry, in addition to answering two questionnaires, one about life quality (SF-36) and the other with data about the working conditions, knowledge and perceptions of dentists regarding the exposure to noise at work.  Results Auditory changes suggestive of being induced by noise were observed in 15% of dentists. In high frequency audiometry, auditory alterations occurred in six professionals, and in four of them there was bilateral alteration. The SF-36 indicated median values of 62.57 for general health and 64 for vitality; 100 being the maximum score. It was found that 52.5% of dentists are aware of the effects of noise exposure on health, but only 5% declared using ear protectors during the exercise of their profession.  Conclusion Early awareness of the effects of noise would bring more comfort and life quality to dentists, as well as less hearing problems.]]></p></abstract>
