</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives: The Cosmetics production sector is constantly evolving, in accordance with society's changes and growing demands in relation to physical appearance; however, the bibliography on the topic, especially with an emphasis on Occupational Health and Safety, is scarce. This review was intended to organize the main published data to help professionals in the field. Methodology: This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through a search carried out in April 2024 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content: Cosmetics can be defined as a single substance or mixture, with the function of improving hygiene, odor and/or appearance. In other words, they are used to clean, protect, beautify, make healthier and/or younger, but without structurally altering the organism. The concept varies between countries, that is, soaps and perfumes, for example, are not uniformly included here. More recently, the concept of cosmeceuticals (dermocosmetics, functional or performance cosmetics) emerged, in the sense that they constitute products that aim to cause positive and longer-lasting changes in the skin, mucous membranes and/or scalp. They are therefore very different substances (possibly based on collagen, elastin, caffeine, gold, retinols and estrogens); sometimes using nanotechnology. Discussion and Conclusions: The information gathered was scarce, when compared to the bibliography already published for most other professional sectors; in addition, even so, greater emphasis is placed on chemical agents and the risk for the customer is always valued more than for those who prepare the product, even though, in the scarcity of more direct articles, attempts have been made to extrapolate this. It would be particularly relevant if employers in this area were motivated to study some of the variables described in the question that led to this review (especially the least developed items in the international literature), to disclose this in a scientific publication.
</abstract>
