</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
ABSTRACT Introduction/framework/objectives: The fact that the world population, in most countries, is reaching levels of greater longevity, due to better medical care and better general living conditions, simultaneously, makes it more complicated for social security systems to obtain the necessary funds to maintain the economic support they provide, meaning that legislation progressively extends the period within which reform can be achieved. Furthermore, the rise in the cost of living in many countries causes older individuals, sometimes already retired, to return to the job market, in order to obtain additional funds to allow them to survive or live a little better. It is therefore pertinent to analyze how Cognitive Decline may interact with work capacity and other occupational variables. Methodology: This is a Bibliographic Review, initiated through a search carried out in April 2023 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content: Cognition can be defined as the mental process by which one perceives, remembers, speaks, thinks, makes decisions and/or solves problems. Cognitive Decline consists in the reduction of these capabilities, altering professional performance, not only in more intellectual tasks, but also in those that require a certain reaction time, attention, vigilance and/or concentration. In terms of results in this review, the authors also develop the main factors that eventually enhance, attenuate and/or are indifferent to the emergence and/or worsening of cognitive decline. Discussion and Conclusions: Even though there is no absolute consensus among researchers and the same situations/measures can lead to opposite effects (mitigate or worsen), institutions will be able to put into practice some of the most consensual sugestions to mitigate the problem, which will become increasingly prevalent, given the aging of the global and active population. It would be interesting to see if there are national employers who have already looked into this topic, photographed their internal situation, proposed an action plan in response to this and published all this data, together with the respective effectiveness assessment, sharing this in a scientific article.
</abstract>
