</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
ABSTRACT Introduction/background/objectives: The Swiss Ball is reasonably common in gyms and other training settings, and several individuals advocated its use in the workplace and even in schools. The aim of this review is to understand whether there is robust research on the subject and what its conclusions are, so that we can advise whether or not to use it (and, if so, in what form), especially in a work context. Methodology: This is a Literature Review, initiated through a search carried out in April 2024 in the databases “CINALH plus with full text, Medline with full text, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Methodology Register, Nursing and Allied Health Collection: comprehensive, MedicLatina and RCAAP”. Content: It has been used for over 40 years. Initially, it was smaller and aimed at children, and only later began to be used in adults with orthopedic and/or neurological disorders, in the context of physiotherapy. However, since the 2nd century BC, some Greek philosophers have advocated the benefits of exercising with a ball. In addition, most consider that balls have a playful dimension. In the USA, this object was called this way because most therapists were familiar with the object in that European country; later, in the 1990s, it also began to be used in South America. Other authors also called it a "fit ball". More recently, it has also been used by personal trainers and individuals who want to improve their physical condition and/or prevent certain problems. It is considered to be low cost, pleasant to use and with satisfactory results. Discussion and Conclusions: Although there are no very robust studies on the subject, most researchers consider that this instrument is useful in an occupational context (for example, as part of a workplace exercise program), although the recommendations to use it as a seat, especially for prolonged periods, seem to present more disadvantages than benefits.
</abstract>
