Objetivo Relatar dois casos clínicos em que a imunoterapia específica demonstrou eficácia e boa resposta clínica, bem como apresentar uma breve revisão das opções terapêuticas disponíveis para a alergia ao cão.  Metodologia São descritos dois casos clínicos ilustrativos: uma doente do sexo feminino com exposição doméstica a cão, sendo atividade profissional desenvolvida no domicílio, e um doente do sexo masculino com exposição laboral a cão. Os testes cutâneos por picada e a determinação de Imunoglobulina E (IgE) específicas confirmaram sensibilização a alergénios de cão. Face à impossibilidade de implementar medidas eficazes de evicção e dada a ausência de controlo clínico, apesar da terapêutica farmacológica otimizada, foi iniciada imunoterapia específica com extrato de epitélio de cão.  Resultados Observou-se melhoria clínica significativa, com redução dos sintomas respiratórios e menor necessidade de medicação de alívio, traduzindo um melhor controlo da doença e melhoria da qualidade de vida.  Conclusões A imunoterapia específica representa uma opção terapêutica eficaz e segura na alergia ao cão, particularmente em situações de exposição inevitável. A integração desta abordagem no manejo clínico pode contribuir para o controlo sustentado da doença e redução do impacto funcional e ocupacional.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction Animals are an important source of indoor allergens and are recognized as risk factors for the development of allergic rhinitis and asthma, both in domestic and occupational environments.  Objective To report two clinical cases in which allergen-specific immunotherapy demonstrated efficacy and good clinical response, as well as to provide a brief review of the therapeutic options currently available for dog allergy.  Methods Two illustrative clinical cases are described: a female patient with domestic exposure to a dog, with professional activity performed at home, and a male patient with occupational exposure. Skin prick tests and specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) determination confirmed sensitization to dog allergens. Due to the impossibility of implementing effective avoidance measures and the lack of clinical control despite optimized pharmacological therapy, allergen-specific immunotherapy with dog epithelium extract was initiated.  Results A significant clinical improvement was observed, with a reduction in respiratory symptoms and decreased need for rescue medication, reflecting better disease control and improved quality of life.  Conclusions Allergen-specific immunotherapy represents an effective and safe therapeutic option for dog allergy, particularly in situations of unavoidable exposure. Integrating this approach into clinical management may contribute to sustained disease control and reduction of the functional and occupational impact of the condition.]]></p></abstract>
