Embora ambos os testes tenham como objetivo avaliar diferentes aspectos da aptidão funcional, o nível de variância comum entre esses testes ainda não foi determinado. Assim, o presente estudo tem como objetivo verificar o nível de correlação entre os desempenhos nos testes TUG e o TLS30s e comparar os resultados com valores de referência para indivíduos idosos ativos, independentes e do sexo feminino. Participaram voluntariamente deste estudo 47 mulheres idosas saudáveis, que realizavam atividade física (hidroginástica) há pelo menos seis meses, duas vezes por semana e com duração de 60 minutos cada sessão. As idosas foram submetidas primeiramente ao teste TLS30s e na sequência ao TUG. O coeficiente de correlação de Pearson foi calculado entre o número máximo de repetições realizadas no TLS30s e o tempo gasto para executar o teste TUG. Foi verificada uma correlação significativa, porém baixa (r = -.563; p &lt; .05) entre os dados obtidos nos testes. Baseado na baixa variância comum (31.7%) foi possível concluir que os testes realizados apresentam exigências distintas para o sistema neuromuscular. O desempenho do grupo amostra foi superior para o TLS30s comparado com os valores de referência, enquanto para o TUG o desempenho foi similar aos valores de referência.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT The 30-s Chair-Stand (CS30s) and the Timed Up and Go (TUG) are functional tests designed to provide information about lower limbs&#8217; muscle strength and functional agility in the elderly. Although both tests are intended to assess different aspects of functional fitness, the level of shared variance between these tests has not been determined yet. This study aimed to verify the correlation between the TUG and the CS30s. Forty-seven healthy women volunteered to participate in this study. The participants participated in a 60-minute water exercise program that occurred twice weekly for at least 6 months. The CS30s and the TUG were administered to each subject, respectively, always in this order. The results from Pearson&#8217;s correlation were calculated using the maximal number of repetitions performed in the CS30s test and the time spent performing the TUG test. There was a significant but low correlation (r = -.563; p &lt; .05). A shared variance of 31.7% was observed, so it is possible to speculate that these tests are related to different neuromuscular demands. The scores obtained from the CS30s were 8.1% higher than the ones found in the reference values from the literature for this target group, while the scores from the TUG were similar.]]></p></abstract>
