Desenho do Estudo:  Retrospetivo.  Material e Métodos: Revisão dos casos dos doentes submetidos a laringectomia total com esvaziamento cervical entre 2013-2021.  Resultados: Registaram-se 54 casos, sendo a maioria do sexo masculino e com média de idades de 61 anos. Foi verificada uma discordância entre o estadiamento clínico e patológico em 17 casos. Verificou-se também uma maior concordância clínico-patológica na invasão do espaço pré-epiglótico, comissura anterior, cricóide, no atingimento contralateral e extra-laríngeo, e uma maior discrepância na invasão da cartilagem tiróide e do espaço paraglótico  Conclusões: Verificou-se, através da análise da nossa casuística, a necessidade de uma melhor acuidade na avaliação diagnóstica do espaço paraglótico e da invasão da cartilagem tiróide. Um estadiamento clínico mais preciso da invasão destas áreas acarretaria eventuais alterações da estratégia terapêutica, condicionando, assim, as escolhas para cada caso.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Aim:  To assess the accuracy of clinical staging in laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer, as well as its impact on the type of treatment and associated factors  Study Design:  Retrospective.  Material and Methods:  Review of patients submitted to total laryngectomy, between 2013 and 2021.  Results:  There were 54 patients, almost all males and with a mean age of 61 years-old. There was a discrepancy between clinical and pathological of overall stage in 17 cases. There was greater accuracy of diagnosis of pre-epiglottic space, anterior commissure, cricoid cartilage, contralateral and extra-laringeal invasion, as opposed to invasion of paraglottic and thyroid cartilage.  Conclusions:  The correct characterization of this type of tumor requires greater accuracy in the diagnostic evaluation of the paraglottic space and in the invasion of the thyroid cartilage.]]></p></abstract>
