Method: Retrospective analytic study of the Ministry of Health (MOH) 2000–2022 epidemiological and programmatic data, complemented by a search and analysis of relevant information from the scant published literature on leprosy in Angola. Results: Angola reached, in 2005, the threshold of elimination of leprosy as a public health problem, as defined by the WHO. Since 2012, the incidence and prevalence of the disease have remained stable, maintaining in 2022 a significant proportion of grade 2 disabilities (9,9%) and new child cases (12,3%), as well as a persisting endemicity in all 18 country provinces. Enhanced knowledge of leprosy-related stigma and discrimination was gathered on the occasion of the visit in 2022 of the UN Special Rapporteur on the elimination of discrimination against persons affected by leprosy. Beyond clinical work, dermatologists are increasingly involved in advocacy, training activities, and field investigations on skin neglected tropical diseases, particularly leprosy. Conclusions: The elimination of leprosy as a public health problem has not led over time to the complete interruption of its transmission. Substantive additional efforts are required in terms of early case detection, management, epidemiological surveillance, and integration of the combat against discrimination in the country strategic roadmap towards zero disease, zero disability, zero stigma, and discrimination. International cooperation and domestic funding should be increased to reach the proposed 2030 WHO targets.
</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt">
</abstract>
